Steve played a very special part in my life. I first knew him when I was a teenager and he was my piano teacher, and he was the adult who was "cool" enough, yet trustworthy enough to talk to about things I thought my parents wouldn't understand. I had no professional musicians in my family, so he was an important role model. He was the person who first encouraged me to take voice lessons with Linda Dobbs, which led to majoring in music at Marshall, which led to majoring in music in graduate school, which led to singing and teaching lots of voice lessons now. Throughout all of these changes in life, Steve and I stayed in touch. He helped me with countless performances and auditions when I was living in Huntington, and I could (and did!) approach him about doing recitals "just for fun". I am enormously thankful that I knew him long enough for our friendship to evolve from a teacher/student dynamic to one of friends on equal terms. I thank God for putting Steve in my life, and I hope to thank Steve by letting my light shine and "paying it forward" to my own students.

Rest in peace, Steve. You were a great accompanist and a great friend who always encouraged me when I needed it. You gave freely of your life, time, and talent to many students who needed your help in the vocal department at Marshall University. Thank you so much for being a part of my life... You will be missed by many people, dear friend. <3

Steve was such a special guy. I had the pleasure of knowing him while I was a Vocal Performance major at Marshall. He was my accompanist and was so easy to work with and willing to help. I also sang at St. Joe's for many services and weddings while he was organist there. What a talented musician! I'm sure he will be missed my many. My prayers go to all of his friends and family.

I was very surprised and deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Steve. I was the first student he accompanied for at Marshall University. He was also the organist for our choir and a great friend. Steve surprised me last year when he came to my grandmothers funeral and was so happy to see him after so many years. Thank you Steve for all the good times, memories and accompanying me through difficult times and songs throughout a large portion of my youth. Rest in peace.

We were very saddened to hear about Steve. He was a very special person with his music talent as well as just being a friend to talk to. Steve planned and performed the music for our wedding at St. Joe five years ago as well as the funerals for many family members. He will truly be missed.
