David Kent Harris I Click for Condolences      Printable Version
1946 - 2011

David Kent Harris I, 65, of Proctorville, Ohio, passed away from this life Saturday November 26, 2011. He died in St. Mary's Medical Center with his family keeping loving vigil. Cancer consumed his body but because he was a servant of God his soul will live on forever. David was born September 28, 1946 in Chesapeake, Ohio. He was son of the late Hiram Hurston Harris and Emma Louise Bevan, who both died when he was a child. David was then raised by his late grandmother Virginia Bevan, and his siblings. He married Marie Harris on April 6, 1965 and was married to her for 38 years. During her three year battle with cancer, he cared for her with affectionate tenderness until the day she died. He formed a very special bond with Marie's mother Welma Avalene Simpson and he felt it was an honor to call her "mom". In addition to his first wife, parents, and grandparents, he was preceded in death by two brothers Billy and Gary Harris and two sisters Jean Freeman and Delores Ann Harris. He retired from Huntington Alloys, "The Nickel Plant" after thirty years of service. He was a faithful member of the Church of Christ for 37 years. God and family were his foremost priorities and he put his heart and soul into both. He was a wonderful storyteller and loved to make others laugh. He is survived by his second wife Linda Taylor Harris of Proctorville, Ohio; his three children Dawn Clagg, Traci (Brian) Russell, and David (Stephanie) Harris; four grandchildren Tyler Clagg, Jacob Clagg, Maggie Clagg, and Spencer Harris; two stepsons Michael Taylor and Timmy Taylor; two step grandsons Justin Taylor and Noah Taylor; one brother Bob Harris; 152 nieces and nephews, step nephews and nieces; and two very dear and true friends Paul and Lynn Drake. He was deeply loved and will be immeasurably missed. Funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday November 29, 2011 at Hall Funeral Home by Minister Paul Drake. Burial will follow in Miller Memorial Gardens Miller, Ohio. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday November 28, 2011 at Hall Funeral Home Proctorville, Ohio. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.timeformemory.com/hall.
