John Bratton MathewsJohn Mathews at the age of 76 passed away on Thursday, November 15, 2012 at a Kerrville, Texas hospital. He was born in Honolulu Hawaii on 14 December 1935 in Honolulu, Hawaii to Laurance Mathews and Anne (Bratton) Mathews. John spent 4 years in the United State Air Force, serving as an aircrew member and mechanic. After discharge John trained to become an Ironworker. This was his career for many years, he traveled throughout the country building many interesting structures. He liked to tell about the dinosaur cage he built at The Smithsonian Museum. John retired to the family home just out side of Ingram. He then drove a school bus for the Ingram school and later he drove for the Tivy School system.

John enjoyed playing Golf, and Bridge. He is preceded in death by his parents Laurance O. Mathews and Anne Bratton Mathews.

John is survived by his brother Laurance Mathews III

and wife Jan Mathews of San Francisco California; niece Jennifer Mathews Nolan; grand nephew, Benjamin Mathews Nolan and many other family members and friends who love him will miss him.

There will be a celebration of Johns life at his family home during the Easter season.

Larry, So sorry to hear about John. Let me know if there is anything I can do around here. I am sure he will be missed on "The Hill"

Larry and all the family, so sorry to hear of the death of John. We have known him a very long time and he will be missed. He was always willing to give a helping hand where needed. He kept a close watch on all of us on the hill. John and Judy Trolinger and family.

Dear Mathews family, I was John's dental hygienist. He was such a nice man...always in a good mood. Even though he had no children of his own, he would always ask about my daughter. He always spoke so highly of his brother too. We will miss him too.Karen Bailey

I have played golf with John over the past few years & have really enjoyed getting to know him. Our sympathy goes out to all family members. John had a large golfing family and will be missed by all.
