George Read Click for Condolences      Printable Version
1936 - 2012

George Read George Read, 76, of Silsbee, died November 16, 2012 at Christus St. Elizabeth in Beaumont. George was born September 28, 1936 to Sallie and Henry Read in Silsbee. George graduated from Silsbee High School and shortly afterwards went to work for the school system as custodian. He served in that capacity for 36 years. George will be long remembered by the children as he helped them in crossing the streets near the school and teachers remember him for his helpfulness in moving and repairing things in their classrooms.

George served his Lord in his service to others. He served for many years at Woodrow Baptist Church in many ways. For the past 8 years he was a resident at Silsbee Convalescent Center, but although unable to walk, he still tried to help others. George was joyful and helped to keep up the morale of the other residents. He enjoyed the church services at the center, with his pastor, Bro. Tyler, and throughout the rest of the week, he could be found sharing his gospel tapes with the staff and other patients.

He is predeceased by his parents and two brothers, Lawrence and Wayne Read, and sister Donna Blanton.

He is survived by one brother Tom Read and wife Jane, and three sisters Violet Morse and husband Arvel of Buna, Mildred Graff of Mesa, Arizona and Mary Haynes of Silsbee.

Funeral services will be 10:00 am Monday, November 19, 2012 at Farmer Funeral Home with interment following at Knupple Cemetery in Silsbee. Visitation will begin at 5:00 pm Sunday at the funeral home.

I remember Mr. Read from back when i was a kid at Woodrow Baptist Church. He ALWAYS had a smile on his face and would brighten any room when he entered. He will be missed.
