1913 - 2012

Lawrence Benton ReadLawrence (Larry) Benton Read was born in Kountze on September 5, 1913. He left to meet the Lord November 17, 2012.

Pawpaw served in World War II as a Merchant Marine. He was a Thirty Second Degree Mason for sixty plus years and was a mechanical engineer with an honorary degree from Texas A&M. He loved to "tinker" with everything.

Larry always had a joke to tell and loved life fully. He liked Harley Davidson motorcycles, boats and trains. Even legally blind, he could cross a set of railroad tracks and tell you what train and where it went.

Mr. Read is preceded in death by his mother Ola Hargraves, father Henry Read, wife Dimple Read, daughter Priscilla LaFleur, brothers Bud Read and George Read and sister Donna Blanton.

Survivors include his son-in-law, Leray LaFleur; step-son Wayne Kluna and wife Betty; six grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; nine great, great grandchildren; brother Tom Read; sisters Mildred Graff, Violet Morse and Mary Haynes.

A memorial service for will be 1:00 pm Wednesday, November 21, 2012 at Farmer Funeral Home.

Uncle Larry, you were the Dad I never had. Thank you for all the wonderful memories and the love you showed me. You have always had a special place in my heart and I will miss you. You were a very special person. To Terry and the rest of the family, Uncle Larry loved you all so much. May God bless and keep you in his care. Carlene
