Margaret "Peggy" Granberry Click for Condolences      Printable Version
1920 - 2013

Margaret Margaret L. Peggy Granberry, 92 passed away in her Kerrville home on Sunday, January 13, 2013, surrounded by her family and beloved dog, Reina. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held in the chapel at Trinity Baptist Church on Saturday, January 19, at 2:00 p.m., with Dr. Bill Blackburn officiating.

Margaret Elizabeth was born to parents Verncel R. and Margaret M. (Sitler) Linaberry, in Berwick, PA on Sept. 27, 1920, and was known as Betty for the first 23 years of her life. She (and her twin brother Bill) attended schools in Berwick and college in Lewisburg, PA. After graduating from Bucknell University in 1942, with a B.A. degree in Math and German, she began working in the finance department of General Electric in Schenectady, New York, There she met and married the man she loved the rest of her life, Hugh W. Granberry. They were married at First Methodist Church, Sept. 19, 1943. Due to Hughs work with GE, they moved to Syracuse, NY; Bellaire and Houston, TX; Redwood City, CA; Manlius, NY, Atlanta and Marietta, GA, and Brandon, FL. After Hughs death in 1979, she moved to Kerrville in 1982. In a letter to her children, she said, All together Ive lived in 24 different homes, -- but the best will be the last (meaning her eternal home in heaven).

Peggy accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior at the age of 22 at First Methodist Church in Schenectady, and was active in churches in each city where they lived, teaching Sunday School classes, singing in the choir, leading youth and mission groups, and visiting in hospitals and nursing homes. At First Baptist Church in Brandon, FL, she became a part-time staff member, doing visitation. In Kerrville, she (the candy lady) and Reina (the dog with the happy tail) were well-known at the various nursing homes and the VA Hospital, doing visitation for Trinity Baptist Church, continuing even after she was no longer able to drive. In her last few years, she was largely confined to her own neighborhood, but enjoyed walking her dog and feeding the deer and birds who were frequent visitors. In earlier years, she loved traveling, collecting bells, working crosswords and cryptograms, and playing games.

Peggy will be remembered as a woman of great faith and much prayer, who was devoted to her family and church, who would laugh and cry with others. She formed enduring friendships in the various places she lived. She would want all her friends and family to know that her deepest desire was that they all place their faith in Christ and join her in heaven someday.

She was preceded in death by her father Verncel (in 1972), mother Margaret (in 1989), twin brother Bill (in 2003), and husband Hugh (in 1979).

She is survived by: her sister Eleanor Mike Gold of Punta Gorda, FL; three children -- sons Rob Granberry and wife Mary of Crawford, and Rick Granberry and wife Marilyn of Lansdale, PA, daughter Diana Granberry of Bandera; three grandchildren -- Stacy (Granberry) Seltzer, Jeff Granberry and Bradford Granberry; and four great-grandchildren Ashlee, Daniel, Benjamin and Sarah Seltzer.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity Baptist Church, or to Partners in Ministry, or to the church or charity of your choice

I will miss my Aunt the twin of my father and a great part of my family. She will be missed by family and deer as well, although now we know her home is with the LORD.

The passing of Peggy leave me with an empty place my heart. Peggy was so very faithful in attendance to worship services at Trinity Baptist Church. She always sat in my line of vision as I played the organ for worship. Her countance had a sweet expression if joy as she sang hymns she loved! Your mother was a priceless lady! God bless each of you!
