1923 - 2013
 William Ernest Montgomery, age 89, of Scottown, Ohio went to be with the Lord on Sunday March 24, 2013 at St. Marys Medical Center in Huntington, WV. He was born July 16, 1923 in Gallia County, OH, the son of the late Ora and Faye Capper Montgomery. Ernest was preceded in death by his brothers Franklin Hank Montgomery and Bernard Montgomery; daughter Elaine (Montgomery) Bowman; and grandson Jason Black. Ernest was a U.S. Army Veteran who had fought in WWII and was a member of the VFW Post #4464 and American Legion Post #0027. He was a member of the Ohio Valley Masonic Lodge #536 and Center Point United Baptist Church of Scottown. He was a former coal miner and Guyan Township Trustee. Ernest was a lifelong farmer and was loved, respected, and admired by many. Ernest is survived by his wife Connie S. Clark Montgomery. They would have celebrated their 42nd wedding anniversary this year. He is also survived by four children Rodney (Kristy) Montgomery, Randall Montgomery, Randy Montgomery, and Elisha (Shannon) Orsbon; ten grandchildren Clifton (Lisa) Bowman, Jessica Bowman, Justin Higgins, Kayla (Jonathan) Williams, Tara Montgomery, Joshua Montgomery, Sarah Montgomery, Emily Montgomery, William Orsbon, and Lincoln Orsbon; six great-grandchildren Matthew Bowman, Brandon Bowman, Tucker Barnes, Jazahera Moore, Zander Williams, and Brayden Johnson; three sisters Geneva (Berk) Hayes, Darlene (Donald) Wall, and Charlene (Robert) Shangraw; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held Wednesday March 27 from 6pm until 9pm at Hall Funeral Home, Proctorville, Ohio with a Masonic service at 7:30 p.m. Funeral service will be conducted Thursday March 28 at 2pm with Pastor Darrell Fowler officiating. Burial will follow at Perkins Ridge Cemetery. Gallipolis, Ohio V.F.W. Post 4464 will conduct military graveside rites. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.timeformemory.com/hall.

I was very sorry to hear of Ernest's passing. He was a good man. I have many fond memories of staying at Ernest and Connie's with Elisha when I was young. I always felt like a part of the family when I was there. My condolences to Ernest's family. My heart goes out to you all.

Sorry for your loss!
My family never would have lasted as long as we did in Gallia County without the help of Ernest Montgomery. I credit a lot of my work ethic & manly principles I have today from his leadership while I was growing up. The world would be a much better place if we had a whole lot more just like Ernest. I am grateful that he had a good, long life. May he rest in peace after working all his life! I will carry fond memories of Ernest & his family the remainder of my days here, and be eternally grateful for the lessons he taught me. God bless all of you! Ely
