I am thinking, this is someone I grew up with. His mother was Pitie, his father Bernie. We lived below them on 7th avenue. We moved when I was 6. His family moved as well to the west end.I was just remembering him, and his family. Somewhere I have photos of the aluminum tree and his pop paw. I wanted to know is this him. So sad that I missed reconnecting with him. So sorry; for the families loss. I have so many memories of him, his family, and extended family. We lost touch when we moved. God Bless him and his family.

Dear Tanya & Family, I didn't know Bernie very well, but I would see him every now and then at the Student Center in passing. He was always very polite and would smile as you passed him in the hallway. From reading these condolences I see how much he will be missed. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family and may OUR LORD Bless all of you in the years to come! Love, Kay - MU(COE)

I talked with Bennie on Friday around 2:00pm at Marshall. I still have a hard tim believing he is gone. My prayers are with you. I know it is a hard time for you and all of us that knew Bernnie. Bernie helped us decorate our walls in the Dining Halls and the Catering office - such a wonderful person. He will be dearly missed and his memory will live on for many, many years through his pictures. Prayers of comfort for his wife Tanya - Bernie's love for you was so evident. So sorry for your loss.

I only met him once but we clicked over our shared enthusiasm for photography and what should have been a 5-minute visit to his office became a 45-minute discussion about equipment and techniques, collecting vintage cameras and the best photo websites. He was obviously a very wonderful and generous man and the world is a smaller place for his loss. My sincere condolences to his wife and family.

Bernie was one of the friendliest and happiest people I've ever met. He was always up and full speed ahead. The world will be less everything for not having Bernie in it. My sympathies to you Tanya, I know what y'all meant to each other. I was glad I got a chance to talk to him when I was in Huntington over the summer. Hugs, peace and love to you.

Tanya, I am happy to read so many kind comments about Bernie. I hope you take some comfort in the love he generated. Bernie was my friend since the seventh grade at Vinson High School, fellow stage band member, and all around positive influence on all of those around him. I think his greatest lesson to me at 16 years old was to take the time to enjoy life. I will try to live up to that and I miss him already.

Tanya so sorry to hear about Bernie, he was such a great friend and I have missed spending time with you and him over the years. I would always find him at the MU games and he would always talk about when we used to come to your house or the video store. He also helped keep an eye on Heather for me when she was at Marshall. He was a great person and will be missed by all that he touched over the years.

Tanya.....where do I begin? I have known Bernie since I arrived at Marshall, 16 years ago. I started out working for him in the Memorial Student Center, and due to my age and being a Non - traditional Student, we hit it off right away. When I became the Night Manager, he was always there if I needed help with something. His straight forwardness and telling it like it was, is the one thing that I will miss...the conversations. And lest not forget his "Irish" pride! Live on Bernie....live on in OUR MEMORIES!!! Blake

My condolences go out to Mr. Bernie Elliott's family and loved ones. Bernie is loved by many and will be remembered. Bernie, my first true Boss working at the Marshall Student Center, was the most considerate, professional, and most respectful man I have had the plessure to work with. He was a great co-worker and played a vital role in the advancement of society as a whole. He will always hold a place in my heart and I will never forget Bernie. My prayers.

I join with so many others who knew Bernie in offering my deepest sympathy on his passing. Although it is little consolation at this sad time, it should be of some satisfaction, comfort and peace to know that in his passing you can celebrate a well-lived and productive life. Bernie positively touched so many lives and will be greatly missed by the ones who were lucky to know him. Im deeply saddened and will miss him greatly. Bernie was more than just a friend, he was an amazingly wonderful person and I will never forget him. Sincerest Regards Terry Anderson

Bernie was a super great guy. He took amazing pictures and was always willing to share them with his student athletes. Bernie took time out of his day to put together an album of Marco pictures for me and post them on Facebook so that I could have some pictures of me in the suit. Saddened at the loss of a son of Marshall. Your family remains in my prayers.

He was a friend since 7th grade...but mostly, he was someone i truly admired. He lived his life very positively, and left a strong legacy with the ones he trained and "coached" at MU. My only regret for him (other than not living longer, of course) was that the last Marshall athletic event he saw was the embarrassing football loss to Ohio U. He deserved to go out with a better sendoff from the team he loved!

So sorry to lose Bernie. He was a friend for over 40 years, when I sat down next to him in the trombone section at Vinson. We had the privilege to reconnect as adults when I returned to the area from the Navy. One thing was readily apparent when we talked, Tanya, you were the love of his life. He talked about you a lot, and how stricken he was with you from the first. He never got over it, or you. I know none of us will miss him like you will. But we who were his friends, who loved him, miss him as well. So sorry for your loss, and grief.

Bernie... I don't recall ever officially meeting you in person. We met through our love of photography. I remember when I photographed the VA Tech/MU game one year someone mentioned how much you enjoyed what you did and didn't care how much you made. You were lugging around tens of thousands of $$ of equipment that I can dream of owning one day. You photographed the athletes of MU for the love of it and to show your love of the community. I learned more from your photos than you will know. You captured so much in each photo. It is true a picture is worth a thousand words and your photos spoke volumes. I had always wanted to get back to an MU game to be able to shoot with you and learn something from you. You will truly be missed. May God be with your wife and family now. You truly are a Son of Marshall. Thank you for all that you gave. RIP.

I am so very sorry for your loss. Bernie was so special in the eyes of thousands of people at Marshall University. I was never close with my dad so Bernie stepped in and made sure that he captured important memories for me and always told me how great of a job I was doing. My heart aches for your family. He was one amazing man. I cannot make the services because I am a teacher and work during those hours, but your family is in my thoughts and prayers.

Bernie was very dear to me and we had a history of fun and pranks while in band... And, as I brought my oldest daughter up to Marshall last year, he was the first to ask me if he could help keep an eye on her for me.. And, since retiring as an air traffic controller and opened my own photography business here in Atlanta, he was always there when I had questions when I couldn't figure out lighting or buying new lenses or whatever... He was eager to help!!! He was legendary around campus and an awfully lot of people got their pic taken by Bernie... I always looked forward to his new pics when he put them up... I, like so many, are still in shock over this... While his loss is overwhelming, Heaven is gaining a wonderful man... I can only imagine the pictures from Heaven he will be taking... Please know you have a lot of people in your corner who morn for a person we dearly loved... I ask that God watches over you and helps you during this time that we can not imagine... My heart aches but but my memories run deep....

Dear Tanya, Bernie was such a guy as so many have and will state. My daughter played softball at Marshall and Bernie was so often there supporting the girls and taking pictures. And his pics were so good, he was indeed so very gifted and talented. When I was there for my daughter's senior day for softball, I had gotten in touch with Bernie to see if he could get some special pics for us of the day and he did. He also printed out and provided me with some enlargements for free that I used in a gift for my daughter. And I'd have to say one of the things that impressed me most about Bernie was how much he loved you. He would often post things on FB that truely showed how much in love he was now and way back when they you were young. I know he will be so missed and I pray for many blessings and much comfort to you his dear wife. You will be in my prayers. Sincerely, Sue (Stoehr) Esser
