Linda Marie Hooks Simmons of Silsbee passed away Monday, December 2, 2013 at Silsbee Oaks Healthcare. She was born in Call TX on October 12 to Lovie Minton Hooks and Vena Griggs Hooks but has resided in Silsbee most of her life.
She was a graduate of Silsbee High School. In 1943, she began a career as an operator for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company. She continued her employment with Southwestern Bell and later with AT&T as a service assistant for 40 years until her retirement in 1983.
Linda was a member of the First Baptist Church of Silsbee. Before her health began to fail, she enjoyed traveling and especially spending time at the beach.
She was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth C. Simmons and her parents.
Linda is survived by her son Joe Simmons and wife Paula; daughters Sharon Herron and husband Dan and Sheila Eveland and husband Tom, all of Silsbee. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Kenny Simmons of Giddings, David Simmons of Chicago IL, Bobby Simmons of Silsbee, Jennifer Damron of Keller, Dan Anne Burk of Silsbee, Zachary Eveland of Seattle WA and Joshua Eveland of Brooklyn NY; brother L M Hooks of Silsbee; sisters Billie Hancock of Silsbee and Eloise Townsend of Port Arthur. Ten great grandchildren, two great, great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews also survive Mrs. Simmons.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, December 7, 2013 from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm at Farmer Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held Sunday, December 8, 2013 at Turner Branch Cemetery in Spurger.
