Donald Robbins Click for Condolences      Printable Version
1946 - 2013

Donald RobbinsDonald Wayne Robbins, 67, passed away peacefully on December 9th from complications of Parkinsons Disease.

Donald was born in 1946 to Elvin and Mary Leota (nee Broughton) Robbins in DeLeon, TX. The family later moved to Alpine, and in 1964 Donald graduated as an honor student from Alpine High School. Donald moved to Kerrville and lived in the Hill Country the rest of his life. He married Leanna Landry in 1972 and they were blessed with three children. Donald loved maps and was a valued employee at the Gousha Company in the 1970s. He also had a special talent for coordinating colors and worked from the late 1970s through the early 1990s mixing paint at Foxworth Galbraith. In 1993 he graduated from the Schreiner College Nursing program and worked as an LVN at Sid Peterson Hospital, Kerrville State Hospital and Edgewater Nursing Home among other places. His kind and gentle manner made him very popular with his patients and he was especially appreciated in the Alzheimers units. After his retirement Donald enjoyed photography and sold many scenic postcards of the Hill Country under the name of Colorful Cards of Kerrville. Even as a young child, Donald yearned to know his Heavenly Father, often attending Sunday School on his own. As a teenager he began to study the Bible, and in 1962 he was baptized as one of Jehovahs Witnesses. He enjoyed helping others to learn about God and made many life-long friends this way. Donald will be remembered as an affectionate man devoted to his family. He and his wife raised their children to appreciate hard work, a sense of humor, and the value of friendship.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Leanna, his eldest daughter Rebecca and her husband Michael Biddle of Austin, daughter Kate and her husband John Monier of Tarpley, and son Anthony of Kerrville. Also surviving are his mother-in-law, Margaret Colbath Mangham of Kerrville, his sister Bobbie Thomas of Lewisville, TX, his brother Tom Posey and his wife Linda of El Paso, TX, his brother John Robbins and his wife Claire of Seattle, WA, and numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.

The family would like to thank the Peterson Hospice staff and volunteers for all the kindness theyve shown. Also greatly appreciated are the staff of Edgewater Nursing Home, as well as Dr. Mehendele, Debra Jalbert, Dr. Wickware and their employees. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Peterson Hospice or to Dietert Claim.

A memorial service will be held Saturday December 21, 2013 at 5 oclock in the afternoon at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovahs Witnesses, 621 Ranchero Road, Kerrville. A dear friend, Lloyd Thompson, will preside.

I was sad to read that Don had passed from this life. I knew him as a gentle and kind guy and a fellow nursing student at Schreiner U. You will miss him, for sure, but he's free of his ailing body now; and that's a good thing.
