Jack D. Arwood Click for Condolences      Printable Version
1935 - 2014

Jack D. ArwoodJack D. Arwood, age 78 of Sheridan, passed away on February 3, 2014 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Jack was born on August 27, 1935 in Lansing, the son of Aubrey and Pluma Arwood. He grew up in Lansing and graduated from J.W. Sexton High School. Jack enlisted in the United States Army and served from 1954-1957, including a tour in Korea as a Peacekeeper. After his discharge, Jack attended Lansing Business University. This is where he met the love of his life, Dorothy Ellen Bowen. Jack and Dorothy enjoyed 54 years of marriage before his death. Jack' s family will remember with fondness his piano playing and love of musicals, the pleasure he took in "fivers", fall days and bonfires, and his joy in life reflected in his excellent sense of humor and ready laugh. Jack was a wonderful father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, generous with his time, love, and wisdom. He will be greatly missed by his family: wife, Dorothy of Sheridan and children, Kelly (Tom) Porter of Stanton, Steve (Cheri) Arwood of St. Johns, Katie Arwood (David Plavan) of Fenwick, and Andrew (Lisa) Arwood of Sheridan. He was the proud grandfather of Abby, Anna, Jack, Rachael, Alysa, Hayden, William, Wyatt, and Audrey and also had two great-grandchildren. Jack is also survived by his dear sister, Helen Neil of Venice, FL. Jack was well known in his community for his 40+ years as Vice President of Sidney State Bank. He was a member of First Congregational UCC in Sheridan and a regular at Glenkerry Golf Course. Graveside memorial services with military honors will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, April 26, 2014 at Evergreen Cemetery, Sheridan. A luncheon will follow at the Lester Sitts VFW Post 5065, Sheridan. In lieu of flowers, Jack's family suggests memorial contributions be made in his name to the Central Montcalm Band Uniform Fund or to First Congregational UCC of Sheridan.
