I am sorry to hear about Smooty, that's what I called him, I am a laborer out of 1445 and worked with Smooty inside Marathon. I will miss seeing him on the jobs when I go out he was always smiling and laughing he was fun to be around. I remember Daryl in high school. He was always making funny wise cracks an he had such a way about it that the teachers couldn't even get mad at him. Some of them did. Like Craddock or Mr Webb. He was always friendly to everyone. Don't think I ever heard him say anything mean to anyone. I know he will be sorely missed by all his family an friends. May God be your comforter an always know he is forever in your heart.

Daryl was a true friend to me and many others. Daryl was the brightness in a day when your day was dark, he was laughter when when you was having a sad day. Daryl was that and so much more to many of his union brothers that worked and had worked with him. My brother / friend you was a great loving man that cared so much for God, Family, and Friends. It's hard to believe I am even doing this right now. As having our loved ones & friends taken from us is always so very shocking. I grew up & went to School w. Steph & Trent, & I remember Daryl was a little older than I but I had a crush on that man forever. He always had such a great personality, made us laugh & had such a big heart. I never thanked Momma & Daddy Smoot for putting up with all of us & Daryl was always there to lend a hand when needed. I am so very sorry that such bad things happen to such good people. My condolences to all of you at such a hard time in your lives. Those poor babies, his wife, his brother & sister, mother & father, you are all in my prayers. God bless you all.

Daryl Thomas Smoot, 42, of South Point, Ohio went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 9, 2014 at Kings Daughters Medical Center, Ashland, Ky. He was born September 29, 1971 in Huntington, WV. He is survived by his loving wife Melissa Smoot; his parents Donald and Sandra Smoot; one brother Trent (Amanda) Smoot; one sister and brother-in-law Stephanie and Marcus Babbitt; daughters and son-in-law Erika and Allen Maynard, Jessica Smoot, Ryleigh Smoot and Katie Smoot; step-children Chelsea Rickard, Haley Rickard and Brady Rickard; four nieces and nephews with one special nephew Austin Smoot; a host of cousins, friends and co-workers; and maternal grandmother Geraldine Steinbrecher. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather Daryle Steinbrecher and paternal grandparents Pat and Louise Smoot. He was a member of Solida Baptist Church, a member of Teamster Local # 175 and 1989 South Point High School graduate. The family extends a special thank you to the union workers for their love and support. Funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday, March 14, 2014 at Hall Funeral Home, Proctorville, Ohio by Pastor Kenny Estep. Burial will be in Woodmere Memorial Park, Huntington, WV. A reception will follow the burial at Abundant Life Baptist Church, Proctorville, Ohio. Visitation will be held 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 13, 2014 at Hall Funeral Home, Proctorville, Ohio.
