Dr. Frederick  Van NostranDr. Frederick E. Van Nostran of Huntington, WV passed away on March 5, 2014. He was born in Canton, Ohio on November 12, 1926, the son of Glen E. Van Nostran and Irene C. Van Nostran. He moved to Huntington with his family in 1937 where he graduated from Huntington High School. After serving with the U.S. Navy he completed both his Bachelor and Master of Science degrees at Marshall College, where he also took part in the Marshall Theatre Group. He was awarded a Graduate Assistantship at Michigan State University during which he conducted research with diseases of oats and taught botany classes. In 1956, he received his doctorate. In his earlier years he worked as a research scientist for South Dakota State College, The University of Florida, Phillip Morris and General Dynamics. In his later years, he wore many hats as a teacher, Justice of the Peace, cab driver, disc jockey, certified hypnotherapist, juggler, clown, and singer in the church choir and barber shop quartets. He was a member of the Masons and the International Order of the Odd Fellows. Fred was preceded in death by his parents, his son, David, and his grandson, Sean Kilpatrick. He is survived by his wife and high school classmate, Quinn, his daughters, Deborah Kilpatrick (Kevin), Karla Taddiken (Bud), and Kimberly Van Nostran, his grandchild, Ryan Kilpatrick, his great-grandchild, Sammy Ray Kilpatrick, his sister, Marjorie Toney, his nephews, William Toney, Jr. and Bruce Toney (Lola) and their children, Lisa and Corey. He is also survived by his step-children Betsy Cupp and Susan Wickline (Steve), his step-grandchildren, Emily Lawson (Leonard), and their child, Aubrey, Thea Haggard, Charlie Haggard, and Will Haggard. A memorial service will be held at Johnson Memorial United Methodist Church, 513 10th Street, Huntington, on Monday, March 17, at 3:00 P.M. Friends may visit with the family at 2:00 P.M. and a dinner will follow the service. The family asks that any donations be made to the Music Scholarship Endowment at Johnson Memorial United Methodist Church, at P.O. Box 26, Huntington, WV 25706.
