Myra Gallander Turner, 91, of Silsbee, passed away April 16, 2014. She was born June 17, 1922 in San Augustine County, TX to Elbert Henderson Gallander and Doris Worsham Gallander. She was preceded in death by her parents as well as five sisters: Ruth Gallander, Marie Casey, Ila Williams, Dorothy Henderson, Sheila Gary, and one brother, G.B. Doc Gallander.
Services for Mrs. Turner will be at 10 am Saturday, April 19, at Farmer Funeral Home in Silsbee, Texas with interment following at Morse Cemetery in Buna, Texas. Visitation will be from 5pm until 9pm Friday April 18 at Farmer Funeral Home.
Myra is survived by her siblings Clara McDermott of BeeBe Ark, Shirley Hamilton and husband Wess of Duncan OK; daughters Catherine Thompson and husband Joe of Spring, TX, Nancy Brockway of Mesquite, TX, Sandy Tolar and her husband Willie of Fred, TX. Also surviving are grandchildren: Angela Kaplan, Michael Thompson (Mandy), Karl Tolar (Blair) and Keith Tolar and four great-grandchildren, Noa Kaplan, Keaton Glasscock, Holden Thompson and Reagan Tolar.
Ms. Turner resided in Lumberton, TX for many years and was a member of First Baptist Church Lumberton, having joined in 1953 during the year the Church was chartered. For many years she owned Stylette Beauty Shop in Lumberton while also working full-time at Eastex Pulp and Paper in Evadale. She retired from Temple Eastex in 1986 after working 26 years.
She was a very capable homemaker, gifted in cooking, canning, sewing, quilting, and gardening. She was a benevolent neighbor and friend and worked hard at anything she did. She set a wonderful example for her children and grandchildren and will be missed dearly.
In her last years she resided at Atria Collier Park in Beaumont and most recently was the first resident at the new Spanish Trail Assisted Living in Silsbee.
