Edgar Allen Burke, 89, of Westwood, passed away in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland on April 22, 2014.
He was born Aug. 25, 1924, at Myra, to the late George and Flossie Osborne Burke.
He was also preceded in death by his loving wife of 66 years, Mary Etta Tackett Burke; a brother, George Burke Jr.; and a sister, Judy Bellomy.
He was a brakeman for the C&O Railway with 37 years of service and a World War II Navy veteran. He attended Little Jewell Old Regular Baptist Church and was a devoted family man and outdoorsman.
He is survived by his sons, Michael Burke (Joan) of Ashland, Joseph Burke (Dottie) of Ashland and John Burke (Debbie) of Worthington; daughters Patricia Burchett (Wendell) of Raceland and Deborah Biggs (Randy) of Ashland; brothers John Burke and Danny Burke (Donna), both of Westwood; sisters Teresa Cotton of Russell and Joan Cotton (Larry) of Flatwoods; sisters-in-law Jackie Brewer of Greenup and Barbara Broughton and Arlene Tackett, both of Westwood; grandchildren Wendy Tolliver, Scott Burchett, Michael Burke, Brent Burke, Heather Kersey, Jody Burke-Kaiser, Bryan Burke, Jennifer Foster, Kathy Caudill, Shane Burke and Randi Wheeler; and 23 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 24, 2014, at Steen Funeral Home-13th Street Chapel in Ashland by the Rev. Randy Biggs. Burial will be in Kirby Flats Cemetery, with military rites by Kenova American Legion Post 93.
