Douglas Earl NewkirkDouglas E. Newkirk, age 52, died Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at his home in Greenville. He was born January 1, 1962 in Belding. Doug was a proud veteran, having served his country in the United States Air Force. He was a lifelong Greenville resident, and was self-employed as a cement contractor. He enjoyed the challenge of his career and the satisfaction of successfully completing a project. More than anything he loved spending time with his son and center of his life, Cooper. Doug is survived by his son, Cooper, of St. Johns; mother, Nyama (Bob) Newkirk-Davis of Greenville; father, Phillip (Marlene) Newkirk of Greenville; sisters, Cheryl (Glenn) Griffin of St. Paul, MN and Janie (Bill) OConnor of Fenwick; several nieces and nephews; and special friend, Betsy Smith. He was preceded in death by a sister, Cynthia Dann. Memorial services will be held at 3:00 PM Friday, May 30, 2014 at the First Congregational Church of Greenville, the Rev. Dr. Jerrold T. Jones officiating. Visitation will be from 1:30 to 3:00 PM prior to the service at church. Private inurnment will be in Fort Custer National Cemetery. Memorial contributions will go to establish a college fund for Cooper.

Doug was a great person and freind, he would give you the shirt off his back if he knew it would help you get through..I had the privilege of working with Doug on many concrete jobs and a ton of times riding along in his suburban truck listening to his philosophy on life. "You will be missed my brother"..And to his family, im sorry for your loss please accept my deepest sympathy

I am still in utter shock. Its been a week since we spoke and ran into each other. You were a great person Doug and had the biggest heart. I am proud to have had you in my life. I'll miss you horribly brother.
