1949 - 2014

Alan ParksFuneral services for Alan Parks, 65, of Silsbee will be 10:00 am Saturday, May 31, 2014 at Pinecrest Baptist Church with interment following in Hardin Memorial Park in Silsbee. Visitation will begin at 5:00 pm Friday at Farmer Funeral Home. Mr. Parks passed away May 27, 2014 at M D Anderson Hospital in Houston.

Born and raised in Beaumont, Alan lived in Silsbee the past ten years. He was a graduate of Lamar University and a member of Kappa Kappa Psi.

Alan Parks was first and foremost a man that loved his Lord with all of his heart and sought to serve Him. He loved to greet the day, drink coffee, and meet with the Lord early every morning. Alan was a very loving husband and best friend to his wife of ten years and loved the daughters that he acquired through marriage. He considered the last ten years the best years of his life as he got to experience family, children, and deep lasting relationships.

Alan served as the Minister of Music for Pinecrest Baptist Church. He felt so honored to serve the Lord in this capacity. The choir at Pinecrest became some of the best friends he ever had and he loved each of them. Alan had an infectious laugh that could be heard clearly in any room. He had a love for people and there was never anyone that he did not accept for who they were.

Alan served his country by service in the United States Army. He is a retired Band teacher, having taught for thirty years. He was a member of the Beaumont Brass Consortium and was a tremendous trumpet player. Alan also served a total of 25 years in Music ministry in several area churches. He enjoyed the outdoors very much and spent many happy moments in the woods hunting and fishing in area lakes.

Mr. Parks is preceded in death by his parents, Dr. George Leon and Erlene Cannon Parks and brother Dr. Marshall Kent Parks.

Survivors include his loving wife of 10 years, Diane Richardson Parks of Silsbee; daughters Jordan Danielle Logan of Austin, Hailey Anne Logan and Courtenay Taylor Logan, both of College Station; step-mother Beverly Ann Parks of Beaumont; brother Gary Ellis Parks and wife Cathy of Wildwood and sisters Kristen Noel McGraw and husband Wade and Kimberly Ann Gibson and husband Greg, all of The Woodlands. Alan Parks left a legacy of devotion to Christ, love for family and friends and service to his Lord and to the community.

He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

My heart goes out Alan's family and friends. Alan was my Youth Director at the First Baptist Church in Piggott, AR. We all loved him. He was a talented, special man who loved the Lord and guided many of us through the trying years of high school. My spiritual walk through those years was a closer one because of his guidance. I'll never forget a promise that he made me make to him. He made me promise that I would not marry a man that was not at least 25 years old...because they couldn't be truly grounded until that point. He went on to explain that I needed to get through college and live on my own for a while before I chose to settle down. It was great advice. I was thrilled when he agreed to sing at my wedding (to a guy who was over the age of 25 after I had lived on my own for a few years!). He was special an will be missed! We love you, Alan!

My thoughts and prayers are with everyone during this time. I have some very good memories of Alan from years ago. He was a great guy and wonderful musician. The heavenly orchestra has gained a first class trumpeter.

I am very saddened to hear about Alan Parks. I live in Piggott, AR and was a member of the youth group along with those that have already mentioned their days there with him. He was an amazing youth/choir director. We went on a terrific mission trip on a chartered bus to Ohio. I remember hearing his beautiful trumpet solos. He was missed when he moved, and it never has been the same. I wish there were more leaders like Alan for our youth today. I will be praying for his family and friends.

So sad to hear of the passing of Alan. He was my youth minister when he was at First Baptist Piggott. He was a lot of fun, a great bible study leader and a good listener. He really cared about his youth. He had a very profound impact on my spiritual life!

Mr. Parks was a good, good man. He was my band director in the '90s and we continued to bump into each other over the years. In the 2000s, well after graduation and into college, I decided to go visit Mr. Parks and see a Vincent band concert again. It was as good as it ever was. He was an encouragement to me musically and an example of the kind of educator that are so few and far between these days. I never saw him speak down to a child or do anything but talk to them on their level. I am saddened to hear he is gone but can't imagine the things he's seeing right now. Prayers and blessings to his family.

Dearest Gary and Family....I was so very sad to hear of the passing of our dear Alan. He was so young! I remember so well all the great times we had at Vidor High School, and especially in the band. I can still see his handsome face laughing and cutting up with Mike Simmons, Barney Skibo, Lawrence Smith, Tommy May, you and so many other wonderful friends. Alan came to my wedding and was so sweet to me and my husband. I will never, ever forget the wonderful times I had with all the Parks family in your home and even a Lamar football game or two. Please know that think of you often and I'm praying for peace and understanding for the entire family. Love to all, Miriam Vogel Hodges

"Eyes have not seen, nor ears heard,....what great things have been prepared..." Surely musician and believer Alan Parks is now among those who do see and hear. I and all the members of Trinity UMC Beaumont choir hold up the Parks family with high regard, and wish them all rest and final peace with those who have gone before.
