1932 - 2014

Elizabeth Ann LindseyElizabeth A. "Betty" (Jorgensen) Lindsey, age 81, passed away at her home on May 30th, 2014. Betty, a resident of Greenville, was born in Greenville at her parents' home. She was a 1950 graduate of Greenville High School. She has been a member of the Greenville Alumni Association for 63 years. Betty was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and enjoyed being part of the choir. Betty was also a member of the Danish Cultural Center of Greenville. She was very proud of her Danish heritage. She also enjoyed being a member of "TOPS" (30+ years) and the "The Red Hat Ladies". Betty grew up working in her parents' store "Einer's Market" and worked for 26 years as Store Director at Jorgensen's Downtown, then working in Jorgensen's corporate office until March 2014. Betty was a friendly face whom everyone loved. Betty's children, grandchildren and friends were always welcome to enjoy her company and her home; she was very selfless and made all feel at ease. She was accepting of everyone and easy to talk to, and a great listener. She also enjoyed being a matchmaker. Betty was an avid reader and frequented the Greenville Library. It is estimated that she has read over 24,000 books in her lifetime. Betty enjoyed traveling to visit with her family and friends. On one trip to Rhode Island, certain family members fondly remember listening to Barry Manilow (one of her favorite musical artists), pausing the "tape" to write down all the words to all the songs! Thanksgiving and Christmas filled her house wall to wall with people, gifts, food and fun. The memories will never fade, as she has been a blessing to all who knew her. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. We praise the Lord for the time that we had with her. We miss her already. Betty is survived by her children, Charles (Juella) Lindsey of Ludington, Michael (Dena) Lindsey of Beavercreek, OH, Sheryl (Jeffery) Schafer of Bloomfield, IN, James Lindsey of Belmont, Scott (Jane) of Temperance, and Mary Nasca of Greenville; 17 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; one brother, Jack (Donna) Jorgensen of Stanton; sisters-in-law, Marty Lindsey of Greenville, Tena Lindsey of Belding; brother-in-law, Gene Kutchinski; and many nieces and nephews. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Bert C. Lindsey; brother, Einer Jorgensen; brothers-in-law, Kale Lindsey and LJ Lindsey; and sisters-in-law, Drucilla Hoxie, Prucella Lindsey, and Jeanne Jorgensen. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, June 3, 2014 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Rev. Betsy Kamphuis officiating. Visitation will be Monday from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at Hurst Funeral Home, Greenville, and Tuesday from 10:00 to 11:00 AM prior to the funeral at church. Interment will be in South Sidney Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Danish Cultural Center of Greenville, and messages of condolence may be sent via www.hurstfuneralhome.com.

My thoughts and prayers are with your family. Betty always talked about each and every one of you during our travels and visits. She was and will probably always be the most ideal companion to travel with as she was so agreeable to any type of music or restaurant and to stopping when ever it was convenient for me. When traveling to our family vacation with Jeff and Sheryl each year we would talk about our families and life in general and sometimes discuss the books we had read or movies we had watched. We both enjoyed country, jazz and older music and she always talked about what talented singers her granddaughters and Sheryl were. I came to realize over the years how important family, music, books, friends and religion were to Betty and how her life revolved around making sure that everyone around her was happy and content. She was such a caring person and a great listener. I will miss her dearly.

We will miss that sweet smile of Betty's. She was a great boss and wonderful friend. We remember the time when she rescued us at the gas station during a snow storm on our trip from Ohio. Her selflessness will always be remembered.

I will miss being Betty's handy man, chauffeur and latest matchmaking project. I enjoyed our talks and listening to Barry Manilow on our road trips. Miss the good times with you.

I am so sorry for your loss. The Bible gives us hope of a resurrection, this is a provision from Jehovah God showing his undeserved kindness. Revelation 21:3,4. Jehovah is close to the brokenhearted; He saves those who are crushed in spirit. Psalm 34:18. Please accept my sincere condolences.
