Not Listed - 2014

Gerald David Jerry Brown, 71, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Friday, June 20, 2014, in Kings Daughters Medical Center in Ashland.

He was born Dec. 5, 1942, in Boyd County, a son of the late Edgar Brown Jr. and Ethel Porter Brown.

He was also preceded in death by his younger brother, James Michael Mick Brown.

Jerry graduated in 1960 from Ashland High School and served in the U.S. Air Force for four years, where he was stationed in the Philippines during the Vietnam War.

After serving in the Air Force, Jerry became a hairdresser and worked in Washington, D.C., before returning to Ashland, where he worked as a hairdresser for many years. He loved all genres of music and could often be heard singing or whistling one of his favorite hymns. Jerry will truly be missed by his family and many friends.

He is survived by two brothers, Edgar Marion Bud Brown (Betty Lou) and Richard Allen Dick Brown, both of Ashland; two sisters, Linda Elizabeth Brown and Rebecca Ann Boyd (Willis K.), both of Ashland; a sister-in-law, Bonnie J. Brown of Ashland; and many nieces and nephews.

He is also survived by his loving friend and companion of 30 years, Hattie Kelley, and her children, Angel Redecker and Michael Kelley (Lisa); his very special grandson, Harley Dale Kelley, who was the sunshine of his life; and many lifelong friends from Boxtown.

A memorial service will be at a later date.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Steen Funeral Home-Central Avenue Chapel in Ashland.

Condolences may be sent to steenfuneralhome.com.
