In the early morning hours of Saturday, July 5th, Leo and Betty Sayre passed away together in their Proctorville home of 48 years.
Leo Ray Sayre, 78, was born on February 7th, 1936 in Letart, WV. He was the son of the late Fred and Nellie Sayre.
Leo was a veteran having served in the Army from 1958 to 1960, and retired from the United Parcel Service after 30 years of service.
Betty Jane Custer Sayre, 76, was born on January 22, 1938 in Ravenswood, WV. She was the only child of the late Chester and Geraldine Custer.
Betty was retired from Superior Cadillac Oldsmobile in Huntington, WV where she worked for 33 years.
Leo and Betty are survived by the love of their life, their only child Patricia "Trisha"Jane Sayre Holsinger and her husband Greg of South Point, OH.
Their surviving grandchildren are Shane Holsinger and his son, Kaden of South Point, OH, and Sara Elizabeth Holsinger Goodson and her husband Todd of Bluefield, VA.
Leo and Betty were high school sweethearts and graduates of Wilton High School in Wilkesville, OH, and had celebrated 55 years of marriage. Above all, they were loving and devoted parents and grandparents.
They were members of the New Hope United Methodist Church, and were appreciative of the Ladies Ministry of New Hope for their monthly visits.
They were also members of the Cloverleaf Squaredance Club, and spent many years traveling with their dear friends.
Betty was a member of the Red Hat Society, the Lawrence County Homemakers and the Proctorville Women's Club.
Leo enjoyed his morning coffee with his friends at McDonald's, and loved his '57 Pontiac and participating in car shows.
Leo was predeceased by his siblings Richard, Daniel, Floyd and Luster Sayre, Vertie Robinson, Dora Long, Mildred Strausbaugh, and Rene Blessings.
He is survived by his siblings Judy Piper of Athens, OH, Opal Callihan and Gladys Grate of Gallipolis, OH.
Leo and Betty were blessed with many loving nieces and nephews, and their special friends Berdene Stacey, Larry and Thelma Raines and Claudine and Sidney Harden.
A special thanks to their exceptional caregivers Jeff Smith, Reda Jarrell and Debbie Adams.
The family would also like to extend their gratitude to Rome Fire Chief George Barnett, and the many firefighters, emergency responders and investigators for their tireless efforts and compassion.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Hall Funeral Home in Proctorville, Ohio Friday, July 11, 2014 at 11am with visitation from 10 to 11. Friends may also visit from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, July 10th at the funeral home. Burial will follow at the Salem Center Cemetery in Langsville, Ohio.
