I heard the news today about Ted and my heart nearly fell out of my chest. Ted was the most pleasant and one of the kindest people I have ever met. Every morning when I saw him at work, he was quick to offer up a piece of Amish cheese and a "good morning". His love for animals was especially evident in his care for Coco and some of the strays the ended up at his house. Ted always had kind things to say about others and a positive attitude toward work, no matter how rough things were. Ted went over and above to provide assistance and opportunity to his family and was always the first to offer a hand when a co-worker had a problem. All of us who have had the pleasure of knowing Ted have been immensely blessed, as the light of the world will shine significantly dimmer without Ted here upon this Earth. My most heartfelt condolences to his wife and children, as they will be the ones to miss him the most.

Ted J. Townsend, age 50 of Sand Lake, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, July 20, 2014 at his home. Ted was well known in the Greenville community for his love of family, friends, fishing, hunting, and especially his dog Coco. He is survived by his wife of 13 years, Debra; son, Matthew Lee; daughter, Krystal; son, Richard; mother, Kathryn Townsend; siblings, Larry (Kathy), Jr., Lois, Margaret (Mitch) Newton, William (April) Allen, Linda Weekly, Lee (Stacey), and Randy (Nicole); and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Larry Townsend, Sr. and brother, Dennis. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, July 26, 2014 at Hurst Funeral Home, Greenville. Rev. R. Mark Shaw of Calvary Baptist Church will serve as officiant. Visitation will be Friday from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. Memorial contributions may be given to a charity of choice.
