1942 - 2014
Harriet Jane Lloyd Scragg, 71, of Rome Township, Proctorville, Ohio, passed away on Saturday, August 16, 2014 at home, held closely and surrounded by her family. She was born on November 12, 1942 in Huntington, WV to John Martin Lloyd and Mary Alma Null Lloyd, who preceded her in death. She was married to Herchel Scragg, who also preceded her in death. Surviving are her three children and their spouses: Beth Ann Lloyd-Boster (Michael) of Proctorville; John David Scragg (Kara) and their daughter Sophia Katherine - precious granddaughter to Harriet, of Willow Wood; and Amy Lynn Scragg Hammock (Jon) of Morgantown, WV. Harriet always embraced a deep love for her children and was a wonderful mother and friend to them. Harriets many friends and neighbors will remember her love, her leadership, her quick wit, her laughter, and her concern for the community. Harriet held a deep, abiding faith in God and was an active member of New Hope United Methodist Church. She supported her children and others as she served as Advisor to the Buckeye Guys and Gals 4-H Club, the largest club in the state of Ohio, as well as several other organizations. Harriet was on the Advisory Board for the Proctorville Rainbow Girls, a member of Eastern Star Teresa Chapter #257 and the Huntington Chapter #8. A graduate of Fairland, she was a lifelong Lawrence County citizen where she was a vibrant and civic-minded part of the community. Harriet loved the political process and served the Republican Party for over 50 years in various capacities. In 2012, Harriet was recognized by the Tri-State Living publication in an article entitled 15 Women You Have to Meet in Lawrence County. Funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 20, 2014 at Hall Funeral Home, Proctorville, Ohio by Pastor Greg Inboden. Burial will follow in Rome Cemetery, Proctorville, Ohio. Beth, Lynn,David and all the family:
I was so very saddened to learn of your mother's passing. She was much to young to leave her family. We were not only friends but neighbors. I would visit Harriet and her mother often in their home. I last saw her at a Fairland High School Reunion. She was always kind and generous and a lovely person. So sorry I didn't hear in time to make the trip in for the funeral. May God keep you in his care. In deepest sympathy. Janice
