1938 - 2014
Helen Ruth Elkins, 75, of Ona, WV died on September 14 in her home with family at her side. A daughter of the late Carl and Winona Turley Rimmer, who taught her to love God, family, and hard work, Helen was born and lived her entire life at Howells Mill on land adjacent to the Rimmer Homeplace. She was a quiet model of faith and was a member of Beulah Ann Missionary Baptist Church for over 60 years.
Helen worked for 35 years alongside her husband and later her son at Elkins Insurance Agency in Milton. Whether it was doing housework, yard work, cooking, or projects for family members, she was happiest when working and was proud to be able to be strong and busy up until the final five days of her life.
Helen Ruth was a wonderful and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Her love and guidance will be missed daily by those who mourn her passing. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Don; sister, Jane Nickerson (John); three children, Kathy Jackson (Robert), Kevin Elkins (Karen), and Karen Holley; four grandchildren, Joshua Jackson (Crissy), Jessica Cooke (Bob), Katelyn and Hannah Holley; seven great-grandchildren; several cousins and neighbors who were as close as family including her best friend of 70 years, Patty Dailey.
The family would like to express appreciation to Dr. Damien Silbermins, the nursing staff at HIMG Oncology, and Hospice of Huntington employees, Bobby Moore and Christy Davis for their care and kindness.
Visitation will be from 6 8 PM Tuesday at Wallace Funeral Home, Milton. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 17, 2014, at Wallace Funeral Home, Milton, by Pastor Paul Meadows. Burial will follow in the Rimmer Cemetery, Ona. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.timeformemory.com/wallace.

Knowing Helen Ruth was a true pleasure and inspiration. Our growing up together started in Mary Morrison's preschool Bible School, then Sunday School. From there to regular Church Services, BYF, Ona Elementary School, then High School. We always shared our classes together including graduation from Milton High School. I believe I can honestly say that no one knew her better than I did. She was a true friend and a precious Soul. Always sharing the same smile and friendly greeting. Time separated us but my memories of Helen Ruth will always be cherished and treasured. My life was made better by just knowing her. Rest in Peace my dear friend. You will be missed but your friendship and memories will forever be in my heart.

There are no words to ease the pain of losing a loved one. Helen Ruth was one of the strongest, kindest, most caring people I have ever known. I have fond memories of her from as far back as I can remember. Thoughts of Helen Ruth always bring a smile. She will be missed.
