Ronald Benjamin Conrad Sr. age 79 of Sidney passed away at home on Tuesday September 16, 2014. He was born in Spencer Township, Gowen on October 13, 1934 the son of Benjamin F. and Thelma Irene (Bradshaw) Conrad. Ron was a graduate of Greenville High School with the class of 1953 and was employed for Wolverine Brass Works for 33 years. He was an avid outdoorsman enjoying hunting and fishing and was a huge fan of George Jones, but his greatest love was his family. He served with the Michigan National Guard for 8 years.
He married Shelva J. Harris in Belding with Rev. Ellis officiating on November 28, 1953. Preceding him in death were his parents, his daughter Pamela Conrad Walton in 1981 and his sister-in-law Shirley Nielsen.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years , Shelva , his sons, Ronald Jr. (Dawn) of Belding and Eric (Kim) Conrad of Rockford, grandchildren, Christopher (Jessica) Conrad, Benjamin (Meagan) Conrad, Richard (C.J.) Conrad , Joseph Conrad and Tiffany Conrad, great grandchildren, Hunter and Hayley and soon to be great grandson, his sister, Carol ( Bill) Reed of Stanton , Shelva's siblings, Wally (Connie) Harris, Vern (Kathi) Harris, John Harris, Deb (Paul) Skarl, Nona Harris, Rex Nielsen and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Friday September 19, 2014 at 3 PM from Hurst Funeral Home with burial in Spencer Mills Cemetery, Gowen. Visitation will be on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be given to a charity of your choosing.
