1939 - 2014
 Barbara Ruth Claflin age 75 of Greenville passed away at Our Place Cares, Greenville. She was born in Sheridan February 17, 1939 the daughter of James D. and Vera M. (Dulyea) Alexander. Barb was a graduate of Sheridan High School with the class of 1957 and was a graduate of Butterworth School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse (RN). She was married to Douglas A. Claflin on June 4, 1960. She was employed by Dr. Robert Rice for many years and ended her nursing career with many years of service at United Memorial Hospital specializing in cardiac care. She enjoyed camping , traveling with her spouse and family and also used her talents with knitting, sewing, doing crossword and word search.
She was preceded in death by 5 brothers; James, Richard, Donald, Robert and Gordon Alexander and 4 sisters; Marilyn, Phyllis, Janice and Carole and her parents. She is survived by her husband Douglas, children; Connie (Chuck) Kettler, Dennis (Barb) Claflin, Terri Merritt, Marc (Kim) Claflin, Ami (Tom) Smith and Lori (Chris) Makowski, grandchildren, Ryan, Cara, Casey, Jesse, Jake, Andrew, Molly, Nicolette, Riley, Madyson, Alex, Tyler, Mitchell and Alaina and 3 great grandchildren, her sisters, Beverly Stoneham and Joann Helmer and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Tuesday September 23, 2014 at 11 AM from Hurst Funeral Home with Claude Johnson of First Congregational Church as officiant. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Sheridan. Visitation will be at the funeral home Tuesday from 10 AM to 11 AM. Memorial contributions may be given to the Alzheimers Association or the American Heart Association |

Dear Claflin Family,
We are saddened to hear of Mrs Claflin's passing. She was a good neighbor and I know that our Mom, Virginia Sims, always enjoyed visiting with the Claflin's when they were out walking. Mr Claflin, Connie, and the rest of the family will be in our thoughts and prayers.

Terri, Molly and Family,
You are in our thoughts and prayers. We didn't have the opportunity to meet your mother/grandmother but by meeting your entire family and her husband at Molly and Matthew's wedding you can sense the love that is portrayed in the entire family. Just by reading Barbara's obituary, she seemed like a caring, talented, loving person.

Terry, Drew, Niki, Molly. So sorry for your loss. I met Barb when we first moved to Greenville right after Dr. Rice passed away in 1980. She was a wonderful nurse at United for many years and helped me tremendously. My thoughts are with you.
