1943 - 2014

Raymond E. EvansRaymond Eugene Evans, age 71 of Sheridan, died late Tuesday, September 30, 2014 at Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids. He was born July 9, 1943 in Crystal, the son of Ceville and Geordia (Baker) Evans. On November 30, 1963, he married Penny Sue Sisson. Raymond was an avid outdoorsman, and especially enjoyed hunting duck and crow. He liked to get up early in the morning and go up to Knight Auto Sales in Stanton and have coffee. He and Penny enjoyed traveling together on bus tours, and frequently camped with their sons when younger. Every July a special trip was made to Cabelas in Dundee with Ron Rose, Travis Rose, Dale Barnes, and his brother Keith Evans. He worked as a courier for Chemical Bank, a job he thoroughly enjoyed. He especially loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and was so happy when they visited. He will be greatly missed, especially by his wife of over 50 years, Penny; sons, Aaron (Shawn) Evans of Sheridan and Jeffrey (Eva) Evans of Sheridan; grandchildren, Jessica Evans, Emily (Jeffery) Belyou, and Alondra Evans; great-grandchildren, Jenna, Mia, and Mercedes; siblings, Keith (Connie) Evans, Gene Evans, and Garwin Evans; and siblings-in-law, Wayne Shoen, Judy Hirons, and Janet Yaw. He was preceded in death by his sister, Thelma Shoen; and brother-in-law, James Sisson, and Robert Hirons. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, October 4, 2014 at Hurst Funeral Home, Greenville, with Rev. James Vanderwarker and Rev. Ryan White officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. Interment will be in Maple Ridge Cemetery, Vickeryville. Memorial contributions may be given to the Stanton Area Food Pantry (c/o Trinity Evangelical Free Church).

Uncle Ray will be greatly missed. Penny: You and he directly influenced my faith. Because of what y'all taught me at Sunday school, I'm very involved in my Church. I currently sit on our Staff and Pastor Relations Committee and am the president of our United Methodist Men's Group. Aaron/Jeff: don't know if y'all remember the day we sent my rocket into orbit because we used a motor that was to big, or the story that followed. But your father's story has stuck with me. I never really understood the story but I think of it often, usually when I'm about to use the improper tool for the job. So as corny as I always thought that story was, it had the effect on me that your dad wanted it to have. Prayers

Ray will be greatly missed. I sure enjoyed seeing Ray when he came into the bank for his courier job. Ray loved to talk for a minute and have some fun. May the Peace and comfort of the Lord be upon you and your family.
