1927 - 2014
Ernest Ray Wheeler, 86, of Milton, passed away October 18, 2014, at St. Marys Medical Center. He was born November 14, 1927, in Hurricane, WV, a son of the late James Albert Wheeler and Lula Wooten Wheeler. He was a veteran of the Korean War, retired from the Corp of Engineers, and a member of Milton Baptist Church. He is also preceded in death by one daughter Donna Marie Wheeler; son Bobby Wheeler; and one brother Henry Wheeler. He is survived by his wife of 62 years JoAnn Bledsoe Wheeler; children, Ernie Lee Wheeler, Rodney Alan Wheeler, Dawn Wheeler and Kimberly Wheeler; nine grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Visitation will be from 11 to 1 p.m. Saturday, October 25, 2014, at Wallace Funeral Home, Milton. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Wallace Funeral Home, Milton, by Pastor Allen Stewart. Burial will be in Forest Memorial Park Milton. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the American Legion Post #139. The family would like to thank the staff on the 6th Floor at St. Marys for all their care and support. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimers Association www.alz.org Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.timeformemory.com/wallace.

Ernest touched my life very briefly during his later years. His stories about his service years reflect a proud tradition of dedicated service that helped make this country of ours a free society. He was a good man. His generation was indeed the greatest.
