1945 - 2015
Michael J. Pickens, 69, of Proctorville, Ohio passed away Tuesday, January 5, 2015 at Cabell Huntington Hospital after a long brave battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife Elizabeth Libby Pickens; two children Michael Pickens, II and Bridgette Pickens; and one sister Eleanor White of Clearwater, FL. Michael was a veteran of the Vietnam War, where he earned several medals including the Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Sharpshooter (Rifle), Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal and two OS Bars. He served two years as 5IC (Structure Specialist) in Vietnam. The discipline and patriotism he learned in the Army never left him, as friends and family will attest. He was born July 22, 1945 in Salisbury, England to Theodore Owen Pickens and Margaret Bridget Pickens formerly McGlinchey. He grew up in Crown City, Ohio and was a member of McKinley Chapel Church. He retired from Allied Barton. Funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday, January 8, 2015 at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville, Ohio by Pastor Ervin Napier. Burial will follow in Miller Memorial Gardens, Miller, Ohio. Proctorville V.F.W. Post 6878 will conduct military graveside rites. Visitation will be held 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, January 8, 2015 at the funeral home. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.timeformemory.com/hall.

I remember I was quite young when Mike came home from the service. I was always glad to see him. He was always smiling and was glad to see us when we came to visit. We did not get to see him often, but he was a wonderful person and we were all glad to have him as part of our family.
