James R. Hancock age 98 of Amsden, Sheridan MI passed away Thursday January 8, 2015 at Spectrum Health United Memorial Greenville. He was born September 1, 1916 in Ronald Township Palo MI. the son of Amasa (Babe) and Maud (Davis) Hancock. He married Rosella Munson in Ionia on Dec. 4, 1935.
Together they both worked for the former Gibson Refrigerator Co, Jim for 36 years, and together they retired on the same day in 1978. He was a friend of the Shiloh Community church enjoying the radio broadcasts of Pastor Ken. Rosella had attended as a little girl with her family at the original church in Shiloh. He enjoyed his home on Dickerson creek in Amsden and took pride in the upkeep of the property.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Clifford and Charles and his sisters Maggie Strecker, Lila Cardinal and Geniva Bloomquist.
He is survived by his wife of 79 years, Rosella Hancock, his sister Freida Gallagher of Hubbardston, his brother-in- law, Ernie Strecker of Belding, his sister-in-law Mildred Vargo of Edmore and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral and committal services will be Monday Jan.12, 2015 at 1PM from Hurst Funeral Home with Pastor Ken Harger officiating. Burial will be in Rest Haven Memory Gardens. Visitation will be Monday from 11 AM to 1 PM at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be given to Shiloh Community Church. Messages of condolence may be sent via hurstfuneralhome.com.
