Corney C. Lett, Jr., 93, of Proctorville, OH died January 7, 2015 in Hospice House of Huntington, WV. Private family services will take place at Hall Funeral Home, Proctorville, OH. Burial will follow in the WOODMERE MEMORIAL PARK, Huntington, WV. Corneys special request is for flowers to be omitted and memorials be made to VFW Post 6878, PO Box 1139, Proctorville OH 45669 who will conduct military services or to Hospice of Huntington, Inc, 1101 Sixth Avenue, Huntington WV 25701.Corney was born in Kenova, WV on May 23, 1921, the only son of the late Rev. Corney C. Lett and Margaret Newsome Lett. He was also predeceased by three sisters, Myrtle, Evelyn and Goldie, his former wife, Betty Lee Wallace Lett Huneycutt and a special nephew, Gary Lee Mays. He retired from Mountain State Supply Company in Huntington, WV. He was a member of Beulah Baptist Church of Proctorville, OH. Corney is survived by his wife of 25 years, Erna Lee Perry Bloss Lett; daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer Lynn and Robert J May of Reading, PA; grandson and wife, Mark Nicholas and Brooke May of Mechanicsburg, PA; great grandson, Thomas Robert May of Mechanicsburg, PA; a special grandson, Clayton Lee Bloss of Proctorville, OH; son and daughter-in-law, Gerald Anthony and Michelle Bloss of Proctorville, OH; a special sister-in-law, Ella Mae and Harold Poindexter of Huntington, WV; special brothers-in-law, Eldreth Buddy Perry, and Eldon (Ilena) Perry of East Lynn, WV; Noah Perry of Buffalo, WV, and Henry Douglas (Ann) Perry of Patriot, OH; plus many special nieces and nephews and a very special caregiver, Calvin Marcum. Corney served in the United States Army Air Corp during WWII in the Air Offensive European Campaign from August 28, 1942 until October 10, 1945. He was a radio operator/gunner on a B-17 Flying Fortress. He flew eight missions, was shot down on his second and eighth mission when he was captured in Holland, taken to Krems Austria and held by the Germans for 17 months as a Prisoner of War in the Stalag 17B POW camp. He was awarded the Purple Heart with one device; Air Medal; EAME - European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Service Medal w/1 Bronze Star, Air Crew Badge and the Good Conduct Medal. Corney was a member of the American Ex-Prisoners of War; Disabled American Veterans; 96th Bomb Group Association and the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States.
