Wayne W. Kreitner Click for Condolences      Printable Version
1944 - 2015

Wayne W. KreitnerWayne W. Kreitner, age 70, died Wednesday, January 28, 2015 at his home in Greenville under the loving care of his family and Spectrum Health Hospice. He was born May 7, 1944 in Coloma, the son of Edwin and Virginia (Warman) Kreitner. On February 11, 1967, he married Deborah M. Nitz. Wayne served as a police officer in the Coloma area before entering the food production industry. His career rapidly advanced, and he eventually served as Plant Manager for Indian Summer. One of the primary focuses of Wayne's life was service in Lions Club. He served in nearly every local and district capacity imaginable, including as 11E-1 District Governor in 2009-2010, and was instrumental in the advancement of Lionism in Coloma, Greenville, and Michigan as a whole. He was a mentor and friend to so many, providing guidance to future Lions leaders and wisdom to friends seeking help. He will be deeply missed, especially by the love of his life and best friend, his wife of nearly 48 years, Debbie of Greenville; wonderful son and the daughter-in-law he considered a daughter, Michael and Julie Kreitner of Grand Rapids; precious grandson, Logan Kreitner; brother and sister-in-law, Dale and Jean Kreitner of Benton Harbor; beloved dog, Bayla; and many other relatives and countless friends. A memorial service in celebration of his life will be held at 4:00 PM Saturday, January 31, 2015 at Hurst Funeral Home, Greenville, with visitation from 2:00 to 4:00 PM prior to the service. Chaplain Daniel Pflug of Spectrum Health Hospice will serve as officiant. Private inurnment in Coloma Cemetery will take place in the spring. In Wayne's honor, memorial contributions may be made to the Van Andel Institute (for cancer research).

Debbie, I am so sorry to about Wayne's passing. Although we were in the same class, I barely knew him until he came to my house with the ambulance when my baby died. I heard that he tried his best to get him breathing again all the way to the hospital. We have never forgotten that. Our heartfelt sympathy and prayers are with you at this most difficult time. Dear Debbie, Larry and I are so sorry to hear of Wayne's death. Wayne was my first cousin and we go back many, many years. He was a wonderful person, full of love and concern. Comments from Larry Bittner: Wayne and I were good friends in school and for the rest of our lives. We had many good times together and Wayne stood up for me October 2, 1965 when Rosanne and I were married at Midway Baptist Church. Wayne, Keith Diamond and I worked together one summer drilling wells for Wayne's dad. We also went to Chicago together once and had a good time (a little TOO good!) When my '56 Ford convertible died one prom night, Wayne let me borrow his '60 Ford convertible, something I will always remember. We remained friends over the years and my wife, Rosanne, and I are glad Wayne was able to come to several of our Class of '63 parties at Hidden Acres in Coloma. We would definitely like to come to the funeral, but we are currently on vacation in Las Vegas and can't make it. Keith Diamond, who lives in Vegas, would also like to be there if he could. We will miss Wayne, and are so sorry he died too young.

It was with much sadness that I read of the loss of your husband. It is so rare to see ones stay together for so many years! Hard to imagine the many memories that you both created and shared together. I hope the encouraging words at 1Peter 5:7 can help you rely on your creator during this time, to provide you with the strength and encouragement you need during this difficult time. Deepest sympathy
