1925 - 2015
Richard Otto Verus, 89 of McBride, passed away Friday, March 20, 2015 at MidMichigan Medical Center- Gratiot in Alma. He was born March 23, 1925 in Flint to Leonard and Josephine Verus. He was employed at Hitachi in Edmore for 28 years. For more than 50 years, Richard enjoyed grooming and streets and park of McBride. He enjoyed bowling, hunting, mowing the yard, and visits from family and friends. He was a lifetime Mason, and spent the last 15 months of his life at Masonic Pathways in Alma, where he received excellent care. Richard was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife of 63 years, Betty Jane Sleeman-Verus; and his brothers, Junior, Duke, Fred, and Robert Verus. He is survived by his children, Terry and Judy Verus of Six Lakes, Randy and Janet Verus of Eaton Rapids, and Pamela Verus of Sheridan; grandchildren, Kelly Verus of Portland, Minda and Kermit Pentecost of Grand Ledge, Ryan Verus and Kendra Verus of Oregon, Heather Heitsch of Interlochen, and Shanden Delamater of Naples, Italy; six great-grandchildren; brothers, Jerry Verus of Clio and Marvin and Pat Verus of Hastings; and many nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, April 25, 2015 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Edmore, with Rev. Marcia Schultz officiating.
