Harriett Rivers WhitmireOn April 8, 2015, Harriett Rivers Whitmire of Buna walked through the valley of death with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, to be met by her beloved husband, Charles A. Whitmire, Sr., who preceded her in death. Other loved ones who preceded her in death and gathered to meet her were her parents, Oscar Bernard and Eula Jane Sholmire Rivers, brothers D O Rivers and Robert J Rivers and wife Jean, sisters Geneva Goings Miller, Era and Vera Rivers, first husband Clayton Stutts and second husband George Alvin Graves.

Harriett was born December 10, 1926 in Noble, LA and moved to Texas when she was seven years old. The remainder of her earthly life she resided in East Texas. She was a graduate of Pineland High School and Port Arthur Business College. Mrs. Whitmire retired in 1986 from Temple-Inland after 34 years of service.

Harriett was a member of the First Baptist Church in Silsbee, as well as a fifty year member of the Order of the Eastern Star and was Past Matron of Silsbee Chapter No. 298. She served as President for Eastex Employees Federal Credit Union and South Jasper County Water Supply Corporation, was a former board member for Jasper County Child Welfare and Children’s Protective Service, Jasper County Appraisal District and Buna Independent School District.

Mrs. Whitmire is survived by six stepchildren, Susan Whitmire Schaber, Mark Whitmire, Charles Whitmire Jr, Michael Graves, Robert Graves and Jody Graves; nieces LaMerle Seymour of Woodville and Lisa Marie Rivers Weeks of Lake Charles LA; nephews Robert G Rivers of Moss Bluff LA and James D Rivers of Longville LA as well as numerous step-grandchildren, great and great, great nieces and nephews.

Harriett was blessed to have so many dear, dear friends all of whom she cherished; but especially dear to her heart and considered by her as being a part of her extended family were Marjorie and Jimmie D Smith of Hemphill, Linda and Mark Bauer of Craig CO, Don and Roanne Stanley of Buna, Martha and Buddy Edwards of Buna and Johnnie Davis of Lufkin. The list could go on and on…she dearly loved her friends!

Mrs. Whitmire enjoyed all outdoor sports, especially bowling, basketball, baseball, football, golf, hunting, fishing and she loved gardening. Some of her fondest memories were of times spent with her late husband Charles, her brothers Doyle and Robert, her nephew Robert and great nephew Jace, who shared so many of these sports with her.

Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Saturday, April 11, 2015 at Farmer Funeral Home in Silsbee with interment following in Morse Cemetery in Buna. Visitation will begin at 5:00 pm Friday at the funeral home.
