Cecil Rowena CarawayFuneral services for Cecil Rowena Caughman Caraway, 91, of Silsbee will be 10:00 am Tuesday May 5, 2015 at First Baptist Church Silsbee with interment following at Resthaven Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm Monday May 4, 2015 at Farmer Funeral Home.

Mrs. Caraway passed away April 29, 2015 at her residence.

Rowena was born in Tulip Arkansas graduated from Carthage High School and Brians Business College in Hot Springs. She married her husband Clifton in 1946 and worked for A&M University while Clifton was attending A&M.

Clifton and Rowena moved to Silsbee in 1952 and went into the automobile business. Rowena worked actively in the business until 1991.

Rowena was active and a charter member of First Presbyterian Church and she was awarded an Honorary Life Membership of the Women of the Church in May 1984. She was active in all community activities serving on the Southeast Texas Savings and Loans board, Board of Directors of the First National Bank, Silsbee Chamber of Commerce, Treasury of Silsbee Community Center and an active member of Beta Sigma Phi., lifetime member of The Silsbee Little Theater which made her famous for her green beans. She was also awarded Citizen of the Year in 1990.

Rowena loved to cook and enjoyed her family Sunday lunch.

She is preceded in death by her parents Roy Ray and Mary Dunlap Smith Caughman; husband Clifton Caraway; brother Charlton Caughman; sisters Ann Rodgers and Selina Rodgers.

Survivors include son Steve Caraway of Village Mills; daughter Susan Andrus and husband Mike of Silsbee; sisters Mary Jo Voss of Carthage Ark and Isla Rae Laird of Hot Springs; five grandchildren Jason Caraway and wife Charla, Mary Caraway, Cristy Pattillo, Rocky Coward and wife Courtney, Ashlea Witzleben and husband Jeff; ten great grandchildren Britain, Brooklyn, Allison, Mya, Luke, Gabriel, Emerson, Sawyer, Landon and Ethan.

In lieu of flowers please make donations to the First Presbyterian Church or one of the organizations that Mrs. Caraway was a member of.
