1920 - 2015

Marie Isabell McLaughlinMarie McLaughlin, age 94, passed away on May 5, 2015. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Farmer Funeral Home, Silsbee, Texas. Visitation will be 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm Saturday May 9, 2015. Funeral services will be lead by Chaplain Wayne Monk at Farmer Funeral Home on Saturday at 2:00 pm May 9, 2015 with burial following at Knupple Cemetery, Silsbee, Texas.

Marie was a Christian, a good and faithful servant of the Lord. At an early age she was a member of Woodrow Baptist Church which was co-founded by her grandfather William Benton Harris. She then became a member of Silsbee’s First Baptist Church for over 70 years. She was a descendent of early settlers of Hardin County and Southeast Texas.

Preceding her in death were her grandparents, Will and JoElla Harris, Ike and Belle Gore; parents Odelia Harris and H.L. (Bud) Harris; her husband of 51 years, George E. McLaughlin; grandson Steve Hollyfield; and great grandson Reece Andrew Hollyfield. Also preceding her were her brothers Homer, Henry Lee, Joe, and sisters Velma (Gregory), Bernice (Cascio), and Irene (Yankie).

Survivors are son Gerald E. “Jerry” McLaughlin (Sharon) of Kerrville, Texas, daughter Trudis Hollyfield (Gene) of Lufkin, grandchildren, Andy Hollyfield (Terry) of Winnie, Gregory McLaughlin of Austin, Melanie Smith (Bobby) of Brenham; great-granddaughters Alexis Hollyfield Husband, Kaitlyn Cox of San Marcos. Also surviving is special niece and husband, Brenda Hawthorne and DR. Lloyd Hawthorne of Abilene, Texas, and cousin Gene Harris (Edith) of Lumberton.

Marie was born and lived in the same home most of her entire life that her father and grandfather built over 100 years ago. She attended Silsbee public schools and graduated from Silsbee High School. After marriage to George McLaughlin she became homemaker, a devoted wife, and a caring mother of two children, Jerry and Trudis. Her yard was always full of blooming plants and she never met a flower or plant she couldn’t grow. She had lots of recipe books which were seldom opened since most of her excellent meals were cooked from memory.

The legacy of her life will remain with her family and close friends forever. Her life was a thing of beauty, truth, grace, goodness, and love.

A special thanks to the staff and nurses at Pine Arbor of Silsbee and Professional Health Care Hospice of Beaumont.

Jerry and Trudi, your mother was one of the villagers who was important in my life. The description of her life is so accurate: "a thing of beauty, truth, grace, goodness, and love." Peace to you all.
