1936 - 2015
David A. Newman, 79, of Salt Rock, WV, passed away Friday, June 5, 2015 at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House after a long courageous 11-year battle with stage four lung cancer. “He was a fighter.” He was born May 12, 1936, in Grafton, WV. He joined the Army in 1955 having served the full term in Germany through 1958. He belonged to the 13th Calvary 3rd Armory Division. He also served in the Army National Guard. He retired from BASF after 35 years as an electrician. He was a lifetime member of DAV and a member of the 25-year-club as BASF. He was a member of Cyrus Creek Baptist Church and rededicated himself to God several years ago. He was a great husband, father and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Goldie Walker Newman; two brothers, James Newman and George “Doug” Newman; and one nephew David Newman. He is survived by his wife, Janice Berry Newman; three daughters, Angela (Paul) Williams, Amber “Son” Newman, and Chris (Mitchell) Cline; two grandsons, Michael Williams and Bode Cline; two brothers, Fred (Barb) Newman of Hurricane and Bobby (Judy) Newman of Huntington; one sister, Dreama Landacre of Greensboro, N.C.; special friend and cousin, Herald “Hawk” Walker, of Salt Rock, WV; and special sister-in-law, Brenda Berry. A special thank you to Dr. Silberman and his staff at HIMG, St. Mary’s Infusion: Leanne Beckett, Cindy Newman and Stacy Ross, Dr. Sharma and staff, St. Mary’s Radiology, and Hospice of Huntington and staff. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, by Rev. David Cardwell. Burial will be in Baylous Cemetery, Salt Rock. A Celebration of a warm, kind, gentle man will be held in heaven. On earth he leave so many special people who love him dearly. His beloved wife Jan and his girls; Amber, Angela and Chris. I'm so sorry for your loss. Heaven truly gained an angel when David went to sleep. Love You Girls!!!
