1923 - 2015

Doris Marie WalkerDoris Marie “Dot” David Walker passed away on June 30th, 2015 in Houston, Texas. Dot was born on September 28th, 1923 to Jake and Hannah David in Silsbee, Texas and was the youngest of ten children. She was a lifelong resident of Silsbee until she moved to Houston in 2012 to be near her children. Dot was a member of the First United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school to four and five year-olds for fifty years. She was also a member of the Silsbee Garden Club and the Order of the Eastern Star for over fifty years. Dot was an avid gardener and maintained a vegetable garden every year. She loved to travel and be the center of the party.

Dot worked at Silsbee Drug Co. and went on to work for Dr. George Tennison, where she earned her LVN license, and was also a teacher’s aid for Silsbee ISD. She was admired and well known throughout the community where the many children she taught in church and school affectionately knew her as “Mrs. Dot.” She touched many lives, including a Camp Fire Girl group whom she was a co-leader of that stayed together from second through twelfth grade and remain close friends to this day. She never met a stranger and was always willing to help in any way possible. Dot was married to C. F. “Pud” Walker for almost fifty-three years until his death in 2001.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her brothers and sisters. Dot is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Carra and Jeff Thomas of Houston, her son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Susan Walker of Conroe, her grandchildren, Matthew, Marshall, Michael, and Megan Thomas, Michelle and Melissa Walker, Trisha and Jason Turner, Lee and Tiffany Thomas, Thomas and Tyler Turner, Lauren, Haley, Jack, and Clayton Thomas, many nieces and nephews, and a host of friends that were all like family.

Funeral Services will be held at the First United Methodist Church of Silsbee Tuesday July 7, 2015 at 11:00 am. Visitation will be at Farmer Funeral Home Monday from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm. Interment will be in Resthaven Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to FUMC Silsbee or the Christian Care Center.

Mrs. Dot has always been a part of my life - at the church, at school, in Rainbow Girls, and in everyday life, as she and my Mom, Elaine Register, we close friends. She was a great LADY and was very much admired and loved by all of us that knew her. My condolences for your most precious loss.

"Dot and "Pud" were part of the "village" that kept me out of trouble (more or less). I missed Pud and now I'll miss Dot. Through Grace they are together and through their compassion, Silsbee is a better place.
