Ben Alley Whitt Click for Condolences      Printable Version
1937 - 2015

Ben Alley WhittAfter a protracted battle with cancer, Ben Alley Whitt went to be with the Lord. Ben passed on July 19, 2015 at 12:14 in the afternoon at his home in Proctorville, OH at the age of 78 surrounded by his wife and daughters. He leaves behind his wife of 59 years, Elaine Whitt; his daughters, Janice Lynn (Whitt) Montelaro and Linda Kaye (Whitt) Knop. Ben was born on May 5, 1937, to father Charles Evan and mother Virginia Gardner (Alley) Whitt, who predeceased him. He was also preceded in death by two sisters and five brothers. He grew up in a large, loving family with three sisters and six brothers. Ben married Elaine Starr on September 23, 1956. Shortly after their wedding, they relocated to Proctorville, OH. There Ben and Elaine lived and raised their two daughters, Jan and Kaye. Ben was a driven individual and had a love for the Lord. He was dedicated to the Rome Church of Christ, his passion was providing for the church. When diagnosed with esophageal cancer in July 2013, he remained dedicated to his church and family and demonstrated a strong will to live. To fight this disease he utilized both traditional and holistic medicine (Ketogenic Diet and Hyperbaric Chamber which maximized his oxygen intake). His last year of life was a year filled with living! He felt great, looked great and had more energy than most of us…. Ben is survived by his wife Elaine, his two daughters and two son-in-laws; Jan with Steve Montelaro and Kaye with Christopher Knop, MD, as well as his sister, Drema Kinder (Whitt); his brother, Audley Whitt; and numerous nieces and nephews, all of which he loved so very much. There will be no services at Ben’s request. His remains will be interred at the family plot in St. Petersburg Fl. alongside his 2 grandchildren, Marcus Alexander and Olivia Kaye Knop. The family, honoring Ben’s wishes, has requested in lieu of flowers, to please make donations to the Rome Church of Christ or to your favorite organization. Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville, Ohio assisted the family with arrangements. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.timeformemory.com/hall.

Dear Elaine and family first of all And foremost I'm so sorry for your loss. Second I loved your husband/dad. He was so sweet and just a good man. He did three kitchens for me. Two for me and one for my mom. My mom was in poor health and didn't want to eat. While he was there he either brought her her lunch when he ate or reminded her to eat. He loved all of you so much. I met you Elaine but never met your daughters. However, I felt like I had. He was so proud. He would show up with a new truck every Father's Day. I use to tease him about that. Elaine you gave me plants the day Tom and I came by and got to see your beautiful piece of outdoor heaven. The waterfall was awesome. I can only imagine your feeling of loss. I hope you read this and know that Tom and I feel like we have lost a dear friend. I am praying for you and in hopes you feel Gods presence and comfort during this difficult time. I feel so lucky to have known Ben. Sincerely, Tom and Pam Robinson.

Dear Elaine, I was so sorry to hear about Ben's passing. I didn't realize he had been so sick. Please know my prayers are with you. I still have the plaque on my desk that heads me so many years ago. I will cherish it even more now. Please keep in touch. I am still working and would love to see you. Love Carol Leadmon
