Esca Dearwood Hicks Sr.Esca D. Hicks, Sr., 89, of Silsbee, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 10, 2015 at his home surrounded by his family. He was a devoted husband and father. Esca was born April 6, 1926 in Spurger, TX to the late James Otis and Bessie Hicks, then moved to Silsbee at the age of 11 to work in the family dairy. He retired from the United States Postal Service in 1991 after 25 years of service. He is a veteran of the Korean conflict, proudly serving as a member of the U. S. Marine Corps. Esca served God faithfully and worshipped at the First Pentecostal Church of Silsbee.

He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Faye Hicks, and children Esca, Jr. of Lumberton, Frances Venable (Darrell) of Silsbee, Becky DuBose (David) of Lumberton, and Marvin (Tammy) of Silsbee. Esca is also survived by "special children of his heart," Ken and Leah Sztraky. Esca was the proud grandfather of 9 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Edna Kelly and Helen Watts. He is survived by a sister, Mary Morrison of Pennsylvania.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, November 12, at the First Pentecostal Church of Silsbee, from 5pm-8pm. The memorial service will be held Friday, November 13, 2015 at 10:00 am at the First Pentecostal Church in Silsbee. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Farmer Funeral Home of Silsbee. Burial with military honors will be at Turner Branch Cemetery in Spurger, TX immediately following the service.

Bro. Hicks was one of the sweetest men I have ever known, he has touched many hearts and will be greatly missed. Our prayers are with the family at this time.

So sad of the passing away of our dear bro., but with a doubt he is with our blessed savior Jesus Christ. He run a good race, keep the faith and finished the coarse. We will miss him, but I'm happy for him now. Our prayers are with the family now, God bless you.
