Shirley Jean (Carter) Hazelett, age 50, of Pedro, Ohio was born on August 23, 1965 in Cabell Co. WV. On December 18, 2015 she received a call, an offer for a trip she couldn’t refuse, from which she will not be returning. This trip comes with the perks of a reunion with beloved family and friends gone before her, a mansion up over the hilltops, and being upgraded from the happiest place on earth to the land where joy shall never end.
She was beloved wife of Charles Hazelett for 22 yrs, devoted mother of five, attentive aunt, adoring Mimi, faithful servant of the Lord, and friend to many.
Shirley worked for 14 years at Bellefonte Hospital as a Unit Secretary and 9 years at the Disney Store as a Crew Member. She was a dedicated member of Mamre Baptist for 8 years. She loved serving the Lord in her church especially in the children’s ministry. She passionately enjoyed traveling, particularly to Disney World and gladly shared this passion by taking or helping friends and family experience the magic of Mickey Mouse.
Shirley is survived by her husband Charles Hazelett, four children- Rebecca (Chad) Vissing, Amanda Brandt, Timothy (Brittany) Brandt, Terry Elswick, daughter-in-law Brittany Ferguson and niece Brianna Carter; 11 grandchildren- Alexzandrya, Aydan, Jackson, Levi, Zachary, Lyric, Olivia, Brandtley, Isaiah, Jeremiah, and Vada; 6 siblings- Sharron, Terry, Dianna, Daryl, Gregory, and Brenda; many nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts, and cousins along with the rest of her family and friends.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Walter Carter and Patricia Stepp; as well as her son Christopher Elswick.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm December 21, 2015 at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville, Ohio with Pastor Ryan McKee and Pastor John Paul Patterson of Mamre Baptist Church officiating. Visitation will also be held 11 am December 21, 2015 at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville, Ohio. Burial will follow the funeral at Aid Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that wreaths of any season or balloons be considered as an alternative as Shirley was not a fan of flowers.
