William Thomas Garrett was born January 20, 1934 in Alpine, Alabama to the union of the late Savannah Garrett Senior and late Artenchious Nix Garrett. William Thomas, also known as W.T. or Dub, was a self-made man. He left Alabama at a very early age with his two brothers M.C. and (late) Daniel Keith, then later followed by nephew Joe Keith (Mary), nephew Rufus and his niece Lou Alice Garrett, the rest of the family followed after that. W.T. was a master roofer at Wilcox and Gatch, H.T. Boggs and P.I. Tudors roofing companies with over fifty years experience. Dub was an avid hunter and fisherman, after putting down his guns later on in life he loved to feed the squirrels and birds that gathered around waiting on peanuts and befriending dogs and cats that hung on his porch. He loved to cook and feed people that came to visit him; he also had a knack with words and knew how to use them as well. W.T. met and married Emma Jean Jackson and had six children to cherish his memories; William Garrett (Marcie-late), Teresa Crisp, Stephanie Washington, Ivan Garrett, Vickie Garrett, Karen Trina Myers (Dana) of Huntington, WV and Rosa Renay Cleckley (Steve) of Chesapeake, OH. He also leaves to morn two brothers and two sisters, M.C. Keith of Huntington, Detroilia Garrett (Mary) of Alpine, Alabama; Minnie L. Jones of Alpine, Alabama and Annie Laura Welch of Detroit, Michigan; Twenty-three grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Savannah (S.V) Garrett, Jr, John Willie Keith, Daniel Keith, Moody Garrett; and four sisters, Katie Calhoun, Gertrude Garrett, Irene Garrett and Salonia Garrett.
The family of the late Mr. William Thomas (W.T.) Garrett convey their deepest gratitude and appreciation for all expressions of sympathy shown to them during their darkest hour. A celebration of life service will be held 1 p.m. Friday, January 22, 2016 at 16th Street Baptist Church, Huntington, WV with Rev. Kary Williams, Jr officiating. Burial will follow in Woodmere Memorial Park, Huntington, WV. Visitation will be held 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, January 22, 2016 at the church.
