James Eric "Jamie" Scanlon
June 21, 1961 to February 5, 2016
James Eric "Jamie" Scanlon formerly of West Liberty, KY passed away unexpectedly on Friday, February 5, 2016 at Barboursville, WV at the age of 54 years, 7 months & 15 days old. James was born on Wednesday, June 21, 1961 at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington, KY. James was the son of the late George Edward & Shirley Faye (Perry) Scanlon of West Liberty, KY.
James was a 1979 graduate of Morgan County High School in West Liberty, KY. James worked for many years along side his dad doing dry walling. James worked in the past as a butcher at Dellchamps in Mobile, AL. He later worked as a correctional officer at Eastern KY Correctional Complex in West Liberty, KY. James' last job before becoming disabled was as a meat cutter at IGA in Index, KY.
James was saved & baptized as a young child by the late Pastor Henry Howard at the Broadway First Church of God in West Liberty, KY. James was a great Bible scholar & could recite scriptures from the Bible. James later in life turned away from living a Christian life, but he did confess to family members about 2 weeks prior to his death that he had rededicated his life to the Lord Jesus Christ.
James was married & divorced 4 times throughout his life. He did not have any children, but helped to care for a step-daughter in the past.
James was a very outgoing man. He did not meet a stranger & his voice could be heard loud in a large crowd. James enjoyed spending time with his family & friends. He will be remembered for his common phrase: "You know what I mean?"
James loved watching sports & was an avid UK fan. He had mentioned prior to his death that he was looking forward to watching the Denver Broncos playing in the 2016 super bowl on February 7th.
James was proceeded in death by his parents, George & Shirley (Perry) Scanlon; his sister, Cheri (Scanlon) Wagoner; his infant niece, Kendra Wagoner; his paternal grandparents, Mike & Lucille (Riddle) Scanlon and his maternal grandparents, Newt & Elizabeth (Callahan) Perry. James was also proceeded in death by several uncles, aunts & cousins.
James is survived by his girlfriend, Mary Stevenson, of Barboursville, WV; 2 sisters, Betty & Chris Barker of West Liberty, KY and Penni & Greg Adkins of West Liberty, KY; 1 nephew, Cody Barker & Haley Lykins of West Liberty, KY; 1 niece, Erica Shayne Lyons of West Liberty, KY; 1 great-niece, Emmalyn Grace Barker of West Liberty, KY & his girlfriend's 2 sons, Michael "Bush" Stevenson of Reynoldsburg, OH & Chad Stevenson of Boston, MA. James is also survived by several uncles, aunts & cousins.
James will not be having a funeral due to his request to be cremated. A memorial service will be held at a later date & James' ashes will be scattered on his parent's graves at Forest Lawn Memorial Garden in Morehead, KY.
