Dennis Gerald Whitely, 91, passed away Tuesday, May 3, 2016, at Kingsbrook Lifecare Center in Ashland Kentucky. He was born May 4, 1924 in Hanging Rock, Ohio to the late Robert and Florence Heading Whitely. He was also preceded in death by his loving wife, Mary Charlene Robinson, in 2008, a brother Robert Whitely, a sister Mildred Whitely, and a granddaughter Lisa Walker.
Dennis was a member of the Beech Street Christian Church. He served his country proudly while serving in the United States Navy and was a WWII veteran. He was an amateur Astronomer who constructed telescopes. He also enjoyed Radio controlled airplanes. He retired as a Dispatcher from Columbia Gas with 35 years of service. He was a loving and devoted father and a devout Christian.
Survivors include his sons Eddie Whitely of Ashland, Robert (Kathy) Whitely of Greenup, daughters Sybil Trimarco and Kathy Smith (Jason Moore) both of Ashland, brother Glenn Whitely of Columbus, OH, sisters, Gloria Steed of Ironton, Carol Crisp of Morehead, KY and a host of extended family and friends.
Funeral services will be held 1:00pm Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at the Steen Funeral Home 13th St. Chapel by Rev. Ken Vaughn. Burial will be in the Ashland Cemetery. Friends may call from 6-8 pm Monday at the funeral home.
