Winifred “Miss Winnie” GravesMarch 7, 1923 to May 23, 2016

Miss Winnie went home to be with the Lord on Monday, May 23, 2016. She was born in Beaumont, Texas on March 7, 1923 the fifth of five children of William and Willie Hettie Dupuy Gamble. She graduated from South Park High School in Beaumont in 1940 and from Jefferson Davis Hospital School of Nursing in 1944.

In 1946, Miss Winnie married Clarence H. Graves and for the next forty-five years, until his passing in 1991, they made a loving home first for three sons and later a wonderful and exciting place to visit for a successor generation of grandchildren. After Clarence’s passing, she continued to enjoy her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Miss Winnie was a charter member of Pinecrest Baptist Church where she and Clarence and the boys were a “seed family” from First Baptist Church of Silsbee.

She worked seventeen years as a teacher’s aid at the elementary school level in the Silsbee Independent School District, having retired in 1985.

Miss Winnie is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law, Harold and wife E-Lane; Bill and Rayedene; and Mike and wife Sharon. She leaves behind six grandchildren: Darlene and husband Jim Johnson, Mary and husband Tony Sciple, Will and wife Amy Graves, Susan and husband Logan Sellers, Caleb and wife Chelsea Graves, and Amy and husband Carl Navarre; and eight great grandchildren; a sister Nora Gamble Watson; a sister-in-law Annie Ruth Calmia; and several nieces and Nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Clarence, two brothers Robert W. Gamble and Paul Gamble; and sister Isabelle Gamble Baker.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Thursday, May 26, 2016 at Farmer Funeral Home with interment to follow at Resthaven Cemetery in Silsbee. Visitation will be Wednesday, May 25, 2016 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the funeral home.

The family wishes to thank the staff and caregivers of Silsbee Oaks Healthcare for the consideration and care given to Miss Winnie these last few months.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests those wishing to make a memorial contribution to direst such to Pinecrest Baptist Church, 5660 FM 1122 Silsbee, Texas 77656.

We Love You, “Garney”

Dear Garnie: I hope that you knew how dearly much I loved you! I will always love you and PawPaw and I miss you both tremendously. Words cannot say how much! You are and always will be a special part of my life. I will always remember the special times I had as a child at your home with you and Darlene and Mary and as an adult you always helped me throughout my life and I know that Mother feels the same. We love you Garnie, and always will! God LOVE and KEEP YOU!

My husband and I would like to express our sincere sympathy to the family and friends of your beloved Miss Winnie. Having lost a loved one recently, we understand the pain of losing one so dear, therefore, we wanted to share with you comfort from Gods word found in John 5:28,29. Jesus showed us a wonderful example of the resurrection when he resurrected Lazarus here on earth, back to the arms of those he loved. (John 11) Remember also that our Heavenly Father expresses his loving compassion for all of us when someone we love dies. ( Psalm 34:18) Be sure to share your memories with those who surround you, for the memories shared are the ones most truly cherished, may they bring you a sense of peace and joy to your hearts as you begin to heal. Take care of yourselves and each other during this very difficult time.
