1922 - 2016
Elmer Mills, 94, of Proctorville, Ohio went home to be with the Lord on Monday June 6, 2016. He was born May 19, 1922 in East Lynn, WV. He was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 65 years Effie Merritt Mills; his parents George Washington Mills and Dora Bell Ross Mills; four brothers Walter, Glen, Bernard and Clarence Mills; and four sisters Dorothy Adkins, Delphia Perry, Bessie Beliek, and Maxine Mills. He is survived by a host of nieces and nephews. Elmer was a member of First Baptist Church of Proctorville, Ohio. Elmer retired from the Huntington Park Board after working in the CCC Camps and the timber yard at the coal tipple earlier in his life. He was a true lover of the outdoors where he spent his time hunting, fishing, digging roots and riding the four wheeler. His gardens were famous for tomatoes, white logan giant and cornfield green beans, which he shared with friends and family. The family would like to thank Elmer’s many friends, who prayed and visited him throughout his battle with lung cancer. We would also like to thank the people at Hospice of Huntington and at Wyngate in Proctorville, Ohio for all their loving care of Elmer. In lieu of flowers the family would like to request memorial donations be made to the First Baptist Church of Proctorville, Ohio or Hospice of Huntington. Funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday, June 9, 2016 at First Baptist Church, Proctorville, Ohio by Pastor Jeff Black, Pastor Mike Smith, Pastor Duane Smith and Pastor Paul Meadows. Burial will follow in Rome Cemetery, Proctorville. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville, Ohio is in charge of arrangements. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.timeformemory.com/hall.

We will miss you uncle elmer. At least you are with aunt effie now and no longer suffering. You lived a full life and were loved. May you and effie rip together. Our thoughts are of you two, from the Cummings and Bryan family. We love you.

Elmer was a blessing and a dear friend to our family. He was always sharing and giving to his family and friends. He smiled like none other with a great sense of humor. We would like to extend accolades to his close nephews and niece who helped provide the best comforting treatment and support in his last months of life. Elmer will be enormously missed.
