James Edward 'Coach' Van HaverbekeGraveside services for James Edward ‘Coach’ Van Haverbeke Sr. will be 4:00 pm Tuesday, June 14, 2016 at Resthaven Cemetery under the direction of Farmer Funeral Home.

Mr. Van Haverbeke died June 10, 2016 at Whispering Oaks Lodge in Lumberton.

A native of Nowata OK, James was a longtime resident of this area. ‘Coach’ proudly served his country in the US Army. Mr. Van Haverbeke coached and taught school until retiring from Evadale ISD.

He is preceded in death by his parents Alphonse L. and Agnes Coyle Van Haverbeke and his first wife and mother of his children, Babs Van Haverbeke.

Survivors include his wife Dixie Bean Van Haverbeke of Silsbee; sons Chip Van Haverbeke of Port Neches and Andy Van Haverbeke of Montgomery; sisters Joan Ussery of Willis and Patsy Kozub of Conroe; seven grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations may be made to the Coach Jim Van Haverbeke Memorial Scholarship Fund, Evadale ISD, c/o Brandy Black, PO Box 497, Evadale TX 77615.

Dixie, Chip and Andy, I am so sorry for your loss. Coach Van was such a precious part of my life, even after he retired, I loved seeing him at Walmart. Love and prayers for you all.

Jim and I both went to London School, road the sams bus and graduated together in 1949. I remember him as always a gentleman and very enjoyable to be around. My condolences and prayers to the family all which i knew. "ben"

Dixie, I am so sorry to hear of Jim's passing. Jim was always one of my favorite people to work with, I could never keep up with him though. We are praying for God to wrap his arms of comfort around you and the family during this time.
