George Morton Roberts, 76, of Ashland, KY, passed away Thursday, June 30, 2016 at the VA Medical Center in Huntington, WV. He was born on January 9, 1940 in Lawrence County, KY to the late Ollie and Emma Lee Isaac Roberts. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers Denver Roberts, Bill Roberts and Fred Roberts and sisters Sherry Boggs and Claudia Ison.

George was a retired truck driver for Chemical Leaman and served proudly in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the England Hill Freewill Baptist Church and was a Mason. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

He is survived by his loving wife Betty Kathleen Carroll Roberts of Ashland, KY; sons Marty Roberts of Broken Arrow, OK ; Greg Hammond of Boise, ID, and Cary Hammond of Hilliard, OH; daughters Rita Boggs of Broken Arrow, OK, Treva M. (Shelly) Roberts of Louisa, KY, Angela Harper of Ashland, KY and Susan Sperry of Columbus, OH; a brother Noah Roberts of Ohio; sisters Francis Smith of Columbus, OH and Edye Rowland of Mechanicsburg, OH; seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Steen Funeral Home-13th Street Chapel and will be officiated by Pastor Willie Mays. Burial will follow in Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Northeast with military rites by Kenova American Legion Post #93 and the U.S. Army. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM.

Friends may make contributions in his memory to England Hill Freewill Baptist Church, Catlettsburg, KY. 41129.
