To the entire Spencer family, I grieve for your loss. Earl Spencer defined for me what it meant to be a US Marine. Years later his son followed in his footsteps and also became one of those stellar individuals. But growing up, Earl was my model of a Marine. I believe he was also a loving husband and a devoted father. I always wanted to stand a little straighter, walk a little taller, and listen a little more (rather than talk) whenever I visited his house. Other than a brief hello, I’m not sure we spoke more than 5 times over the approximately 10 years I knew him and his family, but those few times were inspirational – always challenging any limitation we perceived, urging us to work a little harder, and do a little more than was needed. Semper fidelis.
