Bill and I were high school classmates graduating from Milton High in 1954. My first introduction to "Wild" Bill McDermott from Ona was intimidating for me as he was on the mound bringing more heat than I could handle in the batters box. I was bailing out more than connecting my bat with his awesome fastball. Bill earned my respect not only on the diamond but in the classroom and other social activities with his outgoing personality and a heartfelt kindness for others. Carol Lee and I appreciated Bill's friendliness, consideration, and warmth toward us and certainly his efforts in coordinating reunion events for the benefit of all attending class members for the past 60 years. We offer our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and class mates for our mutual loss. We pray that God's love and grace will be wrapped around each family member for divine comfort and peace.
