A private burial will be held for James "Jim" Lawrence Hedleston, 89, of Silsbee under the direction of Farmer Funeral Home.

Mr. Hedleston passed away August 13, 2016 at Silsbee Convalescent Center.

Jim was a native of Oxford, MS and a longtime Silsbee resident. He was a graduate of Mississippi University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He was a founding member of First Presbyterian Church in Silsbee and he retired from Temple Inland as a mechanical engineer. He proudly served his country as a Fireman 1st Class with the US Navy serving on the USS Alabama in WWII and as 2nd Lt. in the US Army during the Korean Conflict.

He is preceded in death by his parents Winn David and Lytte Hedleston, Jr. and first wife and mother of his children Peg Hedleston.

Survivors include wife Anne Hedleston of Silsbee; son Lawrence Porter “Larry” Hedleston and wife Tonya of Silsbee; daughters Caron Lori Hedleston Wind and husband Todd of Nederland, Andrea Garrett and husband Randal of San Antonio and Adelle Hedleston of Bryan; sisters Eleanor Reeves of Greenwood, MS and Anne Danough of Yankeetown, FL; grandchildren James Tyler Wind, Courtney Rose Austin and Grace Garrett and two great grandchildren Lorelei Austin and Jens Wind.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the charity of your choice.

So many fond memories of Jim, including the graduation party they hosted for me in 1959. He was such a warm, friendly man. My sympathy to his family.

I will never forget Jim as he guided me during my early years as an engineer. He was always helpful and had patience with me. May Jim rest in peace and bless his family during this difficult time.

We are so sorry to read of losing two friends and founding members of FPC, Silsbee, in the same week. Jim Hedleston and Myrtle Landolt will be missed. They meant so much to their church and community.
